seasoning

Hi all.

New here

I have a bunch of Skillets and such.  I read the memo about seasoning with crisco on this site.  I have tried it many times, only to come out with the "spotty" look after seasoning.  I want that smooth, all one color seasoning, but for some reason cannot achieve it.

What am I doing wrong?

thanks

Jon

Are you thouroughly stripping a pan or reseasoning over previous seasoning?

Well that might be the problem then.  I have yet to use the Red devil treatment.  A couple of the skillets seemed to be totally bare, but maybe there was some residual stuff there.  THis summer I'll start over with the red devil and then try seasoning again.

on the right track?

tks

Jon

I'd think your on the right track. I assume the pans are pretty clean so the lye would do well. I agree with Greg that the electro method is great but if they have no rust and just need stripped the lye will work well too.
