This weekends find.  Wagner #4 scotch bowl. Only markings on bottom is Wagner and the number 4. Is this one  a older one??  Not up on Wagner  but have not seen one marked like this. Appreciate any information on this.

Marilyn  ;)

Marilyn,
Your pot is an older one.  After about 1923-24 Wagner started putting the catalog number on the pans.  But even before (c.1915?) the WagnerWare logo came into being.  Your pot could be from the 1890's to early 1910's.   Wagner pieces seem to have more marking variations that Griswold so there are a lot of different ones out there.

Nice find, Marilyn.  Is this a fairly small scotch bowl?

Sizes made were 2-5 with 5 being the largest one so her 4 is fairly large Marty.

Appreciate the information. It is big. Just took it out of the bath and it came out GREAT! With all the buildup I was afraid of a crack. Can't see anything wrong with it except for a little pitting on bottom from use.

:D Marilyn ;)

Okay, more dumb questions.  What the HECK is a scotch bowl, and what is it used for??

Good question. I have been doing this a long and have never known. It must have something to do with scotch whisky.  ;D
Hold still rabbit, so I can cook you.

An answer come courtesy of an old Favorite catalog:  "A comparitively shallow bowl, yet with ample capacity for small families, the Scotch Bowl is very satisfactory and convenient for stewing meats and vegetables.  Every day finds some good use for it."
A jack of all trades I guess.
