Cast Iron Cream Bottle
« on: June 25, 2005, 07:35:00 AM »
I have searched on the internet and don't find anything about a cast iron cream bottle. Do you know how common they are?

I haven't heard of one either and wonder what advantages a cast iron cream bottle might have over glass if it would even be feasible to put cream in iron which can rust and might be hard to sterilize.  If you have one can you post a photo?

Just a guess, but maybe it is one of those cast iron bottles that you find at a carnival....where they stack them up and throw a baseball at. [smiley=clown2.gif] [smiley=clown2.gif]

It is printed on the outside of the bottle to use to replace glass one if broken. I thought maybe the milkman used these as he delivered house to house.

Wow......that is sure interesting.  You have a neat piece.  Steve is right.....not too practical, as it would rust easily with liquid inside.

How were these iron bottles used?  You would put out your empty glass bottles and the milkman would replace with full ones.   If you broke a glass bottle you wouldn't be able to put it out but maybe you had one of these to put in its place so the milkman would know to leave you the right amount of bottles and that you had broken a bottle.  Just a guess.  Interesting item.

I only believe about 2% to 4% of this and I think someone might be skimming the truth as well.

I think we all need to homogenize our thoughts on this and come up with a conclusion.

LOL,
when I first read this, my thought was not on cream, as in dairy, but as facial cream.

Well, I'm about "half and half" on the matter.  I think Perry is watered down, and Steve, as usual is pasteurized.

Well, I've turned "Sour" on the whole subject of "Cream" and we'd be "Butter" off if we just "Churned" our thoughts elsewhere. "Cheeze", I mean where we goin with this?

Yes, I agree; we are milking this one to death Perry.  What if we are wrong in what we say?  Someone will surely cream us.

You all take it and the rest of the forum from here for the week.  I headed up to help a friend work on his log house and not computer, TV, radio to contact the world.  Nice and peaceful.  It's up by Mt. Lassen in N. Calif.  See you back on the 2nd.

I believe Julie runs an auction house.  If you check the AUCTIONS link above, I have a new auction that I listed for her last week.
