Diamond in D chicken fryer
« on: January 23, 2006, 07:07:46 PM »
Pix, 1 of 3
Couple of pix of a skillet and lid we picked up several weeks ago.  I know the diamond with numbers has been discussed, and most likely with the letter.  What struck me as appealing are the six locking nubs on the lid.  It makes for the tightest seal I have come across in any skillet and lid.   Appreciate any thoughts or opinions.
Cheers, Ellis

You're doing good with your pictures Ellis.  Nice pan.

Ellis, I believe these are made by Favorite Piqua.  Here are some photos so you can compare.

I also have a skillet like the one in your photo except my cover is a #9A and the bottom is marked like Rogers, a Favorite #8 1/2A. I believe that the diamond markings are either Favorite or Favorite Cookware, Chicago Hardware Foundry but can't prove it yet.

DITTO.  Just two years ago no one had any idea where these things were made (even though I suggested they were made by Favorite based on a deceased collector's collection).  At least we have it narrowed to these foundries now.  Great work folks!!

The fourth picture that Roger posted has a good view of the bottom of the handle.  How many handle styles are there for this maker's mark?  Is this handle style later than the open style with single stiffening rib down the middle?

Thanks all for the comments and information.  The handle on my lid looks exactly like Roger's photo.  As you can tell, the handle does not have the reinforcing tab like the marked Favorite.  Going to have to quit passing up those diamond logos :-/
Cheers, Ellis

Would it be safe to assume, (one should never assume, I know, )that the cast iron with a diamond with a alpha(D) inside was made by the same company as the diamond with number?
Found a nice chicken fryer and lid recently, diamond D.
