Skillet Griddle
« on: February 22, 2009, 08:37:55 AM »
Got this skillet griddle the other day and was wondering about the number on the handle. None of my other ones have the number on the handle. Is This Just a later made piece that Griswold added that to?

Jesse,

Griswold ground smooth that area of the handle on some 108's, others it left alone. Sometimes you can only see the remains of the 108 on the ground ones.
Now Jesse, your a Griswold collector, and I'm not , so how do I know this? I read about it in one of my favorite old threads. :)
This thread has it all, conflict, suspense, working pictures(from 2002!) and good solid info from the recognized authority for Griswold on the forum at that time.  ;)

Will flickr be around to host your pictures 6-7 years from now? :-?

VERY goog thread Chris......
All I can say is I have 1 skillet griddle with a number on the handle and all the rest don't and I would say are factory Smooth where the number should be.  Huh.  If I read it right Steve S. Said he hadn't seen many without the number :-/.
As for the Flikr. NO.  and they limited me to 200 now. But its the fastest way I have learned to post a picture here. I will PM you for more of your help in this matter as I have in the past.
   Again...thanks...That was a REAL good thread :)

I just reread the thread again, the parts about the 108 skillet griddle. All I know is I got ONE 108 with the number in it and one without. I am not going to believe that the number was ground off. The two handles look just alike in thickness and shape. My other skillet griddles have numbers on the handle. :)
What would be the point of doing this. Look at my pictures. :-/

  Jesse,

So you think that there were some patterns with the number, and some without? That could well be. It was an old thread. Steve might have learned and seen more since then. He might agree with you today.

I kinda DOUBT that, Chris!  ;)

Anyway, all this does is confirm that there were a lot of variations in the Griswold line. We've seen it... can't always EXPLAIN it. But, it seems to me that variations like that aren't all that uncommon.
