$4.00 Giswold #12 Block / EPU with lid
« on: May 19, 2009, 02:46:10 PM »
Picked this up at an auction last week for $4.00 wasn't very many people there so the auctioneer ask if anyone was interested on bidding on something to tell one of the workers and they would bring it up to be bid on. I was the only person to bid on this and one other piece a square pan got both for $8.00 ;D But there is a problem with the skillet it has a crack on the right side of the pour spout which is a shame but with the knowledge from the fine folks here on Wags and the BB i knew the lid was worth more than the skillet. Think I did pretty well ;)

Yeah, I think that lid might be worth a little more than $4.00 ;D ;) ;D

They both look like they'll clean up nice AND you can still use that skillet as long as the crack isn't a big gaping one.

Very nice Lee! I'll take that #12 skillet off your hands for $2.00 - just so you don't have to worry about it.  :)

I think they will clean up pretty good. unfortunately the crack goes all the way down the side to the cooking surface :'( I can hold it up to light and see through it so i reckon I'll just clean it up for a display.

Sounds like some of the auctions I've been to latley Lee. Great buy. Now if I had been there.......  ;) .  I like when there aren't many people at an auction.  :) :) :)

I just looked at a few auctions on Ebay.   Seems about 50/50 with patent dates.   So I would say no.

Sure wish I could find these auctions where not many attend. There are always two or three regular iron pickers. Then I have to deal with Clark  ;) Great buy LEE!!

Excellent work Lee - nice lid for $4  ;)

That's a block not a slant though. I think I paid about $100 for my low dome smooth #12 lid, 472PN Large Block EPU.  Mine doesn't have the patent markings like yours either.

That's a nice lid - probably harder to find than the #12 skillet to go with it.
