Griswold trivets
« on: July 31, 2009, 06:12:16 PM »
I watch trivets as I scan through ebay and have noticed some sell very high, at least to me, while others aren't so expensive.  Is there any reason for those selling for higher prices to do that, or is this just the result of bidding wars in an auction atmosphere?

Thanks!

Ray

The major difference in them is the size.  6 and 11-13 commands the most money.  11 - 13 are next to impossible to find.  13 is by far the toughest to find.  The trivet is worth as much as the dutch oven iteself in the 12 and 13 sizes.

Good to see you posting Blake!!!

Like Blake said,  all depends on the size.   This is just what I have observed in prices,  and is not set in stone.

Nickel plating is on the lower end,  black iron on the upper end.

#6   $100-250
#7   $50-75
#8   $25-60
#9   $40-80
#10 $70-150
#11 $225-400
#12 $350-500
#13 I think I saw one that was cracked and just a piece of junk sell on Ebay.   Don't remember the price.   You just don't see them.   If I had to guess,  Easy $750+

This is just my opinion.   Anyone give me more info if you think I am off.

I think Will is pretty close on the trivet prices here. And the 6, 11, 12, and 13 are the hardest to find. And the number 13 trivet, IF, you can find one for a thousand, and you need or want it, buy it, thats cheap. Here while back I seen a cracked one sell for 100 plus at an auction.

It took me 10 years to find the 6 - 13 dutch ovens with trivets.  It was the hardest set to put together of any of the skillets, oval roasters, etc...

Congratulations Blake, I know exactly what you mean.  :) You probably have the raised letter set? I don't guess you are working on putting a smooth top set together, are you, or maybe the set you are talking about is the smooth top.:-/

Perry what, in your opinion, is the value of a #13 D/O and the trivet (separately).  I am just curious.

WELL Jeff, I would say that the number 13 D/O in good condition is worth 1500.00, and the trivet, in good shape also, is worth right at 1200.00, probably a tad more even.

Thanks Perry I actually thought it would be higher than that so at least now I have an idea of their values!!!  Not that I will be purchasing one anytime soon but you just never know.

It is the raised letter set, the 12 had a smooth lid on it when I got it, a week later I found the raised letter lid for next to nothing, It worked out
perfectly. No I'm not planning on attempting to put that set together again in any lid formation.

Well Jeff, I can get you started on a number 13 "start'em up kit". I know a guy thats got a number 13 bottom, he's just about wore it out draggin it around from show to show to show to show.

ANYWAY, he wants, I think, 400.00 for it. I think if somebody could get it for maybe a less and then pick a lid up, it'd be a cheap way of getting into a number 13 Griswold Dutch Oven, like I said, its pitted a little, it ain't cracked or anything like that.

Perry if you say $400 ain't bad how come you haven't picked it up yourself yet??  ;D ;D ;D  Truth be known I have to wait (code for wife told me so) until we actually own a home before I can get anything that big!!!  And she ain't kidding.  Long story short if I get rid of my wife to buy a #13 then I can't afford the #13!  ;D ;D ;D  I have the 6, 8, & 9 with raised letters so I guess I can wait a while (but only because I have to!!).

Did they only make the 13 in just the Tite-Top Baster and the Tite-Top Dutch Oven??  Know that I say that I think that I remember it in the smooth top??  Are there any others??

If they were made in any other variation than what you say here Jeff, I am not aware of it.

I'll have to find it in the basement, but I believe it just has 13 on it.  I had it at one of the WAGS conventions for Show and Tell a few years ago.
