Wagner 228 Coffee Pot

I picked this up yesterday for cheap and then I looked at the book and say that it was supposed to have a stand??  I have seen many stands that fit coffee pots like this so I am wondering if the Wagner one was marked??  

I am also going to have to measure it because I don't think the dimensions in the RB are anywhere close to this piece??

Also this one will most likely be for sale so should I even try to mess with the handles or just leave it like it is??

Gotta go clean it so I can post pictures of a more respectable piece of aluminum!!

Nice Jeff.   I have that item,  and yes there is a stand for it.   None of the stands are marked,  that I remember. ::)     Not even the Griswold one I have.   Leave the handle alone.   Sell it as is.   Polish it up and sell it. ;)

Polish it up and sell it sure sounds easy!!  I worked on the inside for the better part of an hour and gave up getting it looking good!!!  The outside will be easy compared to that black crap on the inside!!

Should I go pick up a stand (I am pretty sure that Wear Ever has an identical coffee pot and I think I can get one cheap)??

The inserts on them are all different that I have too.   I have a Wagner,  Griswold and a Battleship,  made by ??? Silverseal??  I can't remember who made it.   Brain is failing me tonight.

I have the identical coffee pot but different marking on the bottom. Mine reeds Good Health Heavy Cast and the number 16. Any idea who made it?

Jeff, please post some pictures once you get it clean. I read one post of yours on a Magnalite piece where you stated how you cleaned it. It was beautiful and encouraged me to try cleaning some of my aluminum. So, thanks to you, I now have a few really nice pieces.

Hey Ed thanks for the picture!!  I guess I could go salvage some parts from a different maker but then I would probable have to clean those as well??  I think I will just roll the dice and sell it as it is.

  You're welcome Jeff. Clark has a couple three of these. Clark you have any marked bases with yours??

I have this exact one as well Jeff and base is not marked at all.  Does have the insert as Ed posted a pic of, sort of a strainer type thing, I don't know.  I don't drink coffee.

I have a Griswold one of these, and it has a stand, and the stand is marked. It does not have the guts in it though. I THOUGHT it was just a water pitcher.

Well, its marked like this, its "A 109 B", which to me means Aluminum, pat no 109 and B for bottom.

Jeff, what do you use to clean the inside with? Does it have that thick white scale in it?

Anthony I have used CLR to get that white scale off on a few pieces but it tends to turn the aluminum black so you got a lot of scrubbing to do.  I am not afraid to scrub real hard with steel wool or even use sand paper on aluminum as it will still polish up.

This one has some black crap in it that I think is actually pitted aluminum (which I think salt will do??).  I am going to give it one more try tonight and if I can't get it off it will be good enough (actually I am going to scrub on it for hours and hours until it is all shiny and then think that I was a sucker for doing that when I sell it because my labor went real cheap but that is just the way that I am  ;D ;D).

Try perking it with a mix of dishwasher detergent (not dish soap) and water for about 10 - 15 mins.
I love perked coffee and when I pick up a pot at sales they are normally kind of black on the inside.
Perking the dishwasher det. makes clean up quite easy. Let it cool enough to handle and get out the scrubbie, it shouldn't take a ton of elbow grease to get the inside clean.
