Wagner not in the books
« on: March 01, 2010, 11:24:53 PM »
This one came with that big lot of CI I picked up some time back. I don't see this particular piece in the books. There is a Wagner Broiler, but it's different than this. I believe this is an plder one due to the markings on the bottom.

"WAGNER"  PATD  JUNE 18 1901

Has anyone seen one like this?

To the best of my knowledge, the handle is original. Even has the little metal ring up against the broiler. The handle is 5" long from the edge of the broiler. Maybe they got a little smarter with your handle Ed, and made it longer. Ed, your handle is even different from the newer one in the BB. This one will find a home right here. I like the unusual stuff. Since I don't have a wood stove with an opening, I don't think it will get used.  :D

Hey Chuck definetly cool, I just saw one of these last week when I was out. Kick myself for not getting it then, I think they wanted $25.00 for it, now that I saw yours, I think I have to go back and get it!

If you do pick it up Jake, post some pics. Let's see if we can find 2 that are alike. So far the handles are different on the 2 posted here, and the one in the BB. Of course the one in the BB has newer markings also.

Yeah, Wagner may have messed around with handle variations when first producing these.  Yours is the first I've seen in with that style handle. I have seen some similar to mine with turnings in the handle( like WI handle) and an eyelet in the end..

This is an awesome piece. If I ever see one I'll be trying to buy it. I have to say from a practical standpoint I'm not a fan of the wood handle because I would want to be able to put it in the oven under a broiler. But I have my Griswold Double Broiler for that  ;) This one looks very nice an light. IMHO it's really a grill for stove top only use, not for use under a broiler element or oven due to the wooden handle.

Just an observation. It's a beautiful piece. Awesome to have in a collection for sure!

Chuck - when are you going to open up your museum? I think they have some space right near you by the Padre Pio site. You could catch some traffic coming in and out of there  8-)

If it's the one for $149, it's the same thing only different. It is marked WW Sidney -o- with c/n...   It would be later production that Chucks and mine...
