JUST PURCHASED "THE ERIE FLUTER" DID I GET A GOOD
« on: March 10, 2010, 06:07:54 PM »
Just purchased (on eBay, item # 330410294074) a item stamped "THE ERIE FLUTER" with 2 crimper pieces and stand for about $225.00.  Just wondering if it was a good deal or not.

My wife was born in Erie, PA and remembers the factory.  We started collecting about 10 years ago after she said that she would like to have some GRISOWLD cast iron, and it has evolved into a monster!   ;D

Currently have over 110 pieces and still collecting.  Glad I found this forum and look forward to collecting more! :)

Kenneth welcome to WAGS!!!  Glad to here that you enjoy collecting cast iron!!!!  Most of the folks around here like collecting cast iron as well.

As for your new Erie fluter, they are a hard to find piece for sure.  That one looks like it is in good condition.  They did not mention a number on the bottom fluting plate?  I believe that if it is the correct base it will be marked with a 298.  I can't say that I have ever seen one with that stand it is sitting on??  I think that you paid near fair market value for this piece and IMO they are worth it as they are a great item to display and discuss.

Thanks Jeff,

I'll let you all know the numbers etc. when I receive the pieces.  Will take photo's too.  Glad to know I didn't pay too much.  As we all know, this all increases in value as time goes on.

Greg does that include this style of fluter and base??  The reason that I ask is that I know the fluter with the permanently attached handle does not have a marked base.

as far as I know there is no difference in these bases, except that there is a p/n on one of them.  they can be exchanged for either flutter.

The bases do differ. You have to look in the BB & RB to see them.. Check when you have a moment..

The Red Book and the Blue Book!  Both are must haves for any collector or anyone that is interested in purchasing cast iron and not getting the shaft by the seller.  Greg Stahl has them available on his website for a good price and he ships very promptly:

Just received the fluter.  The item is in 5 pieces as follows. (from the top down)
1  removable handle
2  top curved fluter marked "THE ERIE FLUTER"
3  bottom flat fluter
4  bottom stand insert (??)
5  bottom stand

The only marks are on the top curved fluter.

Thanks Jeff for the info,  I already own the RB and BB.  (my cast iron bibles)

All item are in great shape, just a little rust on the bottom stand insert and stand.  Should I try to clean them?

thanks guys for all the help and info!
