Can anyone tell me if this is right Puritan WI
« on: March 24, 2010, 01:58:26 PM »
Hi, I purchased this Puritan Waffle Iron with base.  My question is that it came with a Griswold #8 and Griswold base.  I can't see this being right, but it fits so well.  What did the other side look like and does anyone have one for sale.  Any help would be appreciated.

Gene, what you have there is a complete Puritan / Griswold WI. That's the way that they made them. There are a couple of variations in the paddles, and part numbers, and that's one of them. I have one just like it that I got because the other folks in the auction crowd didn't know it was a matched WI. In fact, I have the 333 just like yours, as well as one other that I can't remember right now.

Thanks Chuck.  I bought it for a 5 buck and cleaned it up. Glad to know it is complete.  The base is fully marked, but I cleaned five bases, so I don't know which one came with it.

Thanks Ray!  I think I'm going to sell it.  There is a 20 Griswold skillet that I'm saving for.

For this one Gene, I would go with the least marked base, if you have one. Save the fully marked base for the "Full Griswold" WI's. JMHO though. Great Job on the cleaning, and seasoning. Not to mention the price. I think you'll get your money back, and then some. When you get that #20, be sure to post some pics. Don't forget, it'll take a big tank to clean it.  ;D

Thanks Chuck.  I sold a 20 on ebay before and wish I didn't.  Have a friend of a friend who has one and I'm getting close to buying it.

As a frequent buyer, I would counter Chuck's suggestion, of not using the fully marked base the waffle iron came with, with my thoughts.  When I buy, I like to purchase the complete set, and as with this Puritan/Griswold, if they were produced as a set at the foundry, as you have there, they should be sold as a set.  It seems to me to be a disservice to the buyer to do otherwise.  I know I would want the whole set and not a partial with a secondary base thrown in.

I guess I'll be bidding on all of your waffle irons then, because I like them all.  We'll have to wait and see how the sales turn out.  I wanted to put together a nice set of users for home.  Everyone here loves cast iron, and collections of beautiful wares go over tremendously well, plus I love the way they make the house look and me feel.

I've got some great skillets from Chuck and others that's are my home skillets, beautifully spectacular old ERIEs!

Ray,  me and my family go camping with 4 other couples and there kids.  It's not ruffing it, we all have 30' pull type campers but I love to pull out my cast iron cookware.  The kids love helping make waffles and pancakes on CI in the mornings.  They also love helping with a good roast and veggies in a dutch oven.  Nothing better then pan fried catfish over a fire.

I think I'm going to start giving a discount to WAGS members if they purchase one of my items.  It's would be nice to know that they are going to a good home wear they are appreciated.   Ray if you win the auction, I will give you a 10% discount, just send me a message on ebay so I know it is you.
