Help with ID of skillet and dutch oven
« on: March 28, 2010, 11:25:11 PM »
Hi, I was hoping someone could help identify these pieces.  The first one is a unmarked skillet that measures 11 3/4 spout to spout and 3" deep.  There is an X on the bottom side of the handle.  I think I read something about an X in this position before but can't find where.  ON the top of the handle there is a slight depression where the handle meets the skillet.  On the dutch ovens one is marked 10 W on the bottom and the other is marked with  #9.  Under the 9 there are three letters, first I can't make out the second is a K and the third is a U.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

What I know you could lose under your little finger nail, when it comes to iron cookware. I'll guess that the DO is lodge. I'm stumped on the chicken fryer.

Gene, we use the same DO in our kitchen. You are correct about the markings. I never did find out who made the thing. It's marked the exact same way. I'm hoping some info comes out in this post. We use a #9 Lodge DO lid that fits great. I can't remember if it came with the lid or not. Let's see what we can find out.

Roger do you know anything abou the maker of the skillet.  Not much response on the DO's.  I think it's got everyone stumped.

Am I wrong in thinking that Wagner had a hardward store line of unmarked cookware with a handle like that?  I was thinking they made a chicken fryer with a lid that was just marked with an X, but not sure if the bottom was marked or not.  The handle looks similar to Wagners Long Life skillet. We'll wait and let the big boys chime in when they get here.

Rick I think that chicken fryer is an unmarked Wagner as well.  I think this one came with a lid that have the Wagner concentric basting rings and just an X right in the middle of the bottom side.

Does the handle have just a hole like a donut??

I agree unmarked Wagner. But, I'm not sure that ANYONE is positive on this. Gene, I think you're lucky! You found one with the outset HR, which I prefer over the smooth bottom variety (Yes, I've got both!)

I'm no pro at this, but I have a skillet and lid that look just like yours.  My deep skillet and lid are both marked with a "V" instead of the "X" on your skillet.  The red book shows your skillet on page 28 and the lid again on page 33.  The book states the mark is an "X" like yours.  I assume that my skillet is a Wagner with some slight variation (can anyone verify this).  The lid fits like a glove.  Mine was a mess when I got it, and I have been cleaning it.  Looking forward to using it.

I saw this skillet on the side of a shed coming back from an auction Saturday, so I american pickered it for 4 dollars.  I also bought several other cast iron pieces  (not cookware) but interesting items.  I was there for an hour talking about all his treasures.  The pictures of the skillet were taken just after I got it out of the electro tank.  I have seen seasoned it and it looks great.  Does anyone know about the DOs
