A Real Old CO

Saw this at the local flea market. Didn't buy it as it is lidless, and those things are almost impossible to find. When did foundries go from the older system of sizing to inches? Check out the bail attachment area, I have never seen one like this. Usually old CO have cow horn bail attachments.

Also like the shape of the legs.

Dwayne,
Was the price right? If you got it at a low enough cost, and posted the inside dimensions of the lid needed, one might turn up... maybe one from another type of CO?
Might be a "bought it to save it" ;)

Dwayne, best guess about the numbering system is sometime around 1880's.  I don't remember seeing bail ears like those before.  That would have come home with me.   ::)  I know I have a weakness. ;D

That IS a really cool piece! I'm with Roger - I have a weakness for really early pieces too, and it would have come home with me if the price was reasonable. In fact, it would have made the trip home on my lap, just in case I had to stop suddenly.  ;D
