Wagner Wafer Iron 1451
« on: November 27, 2013, 08:38:39 AM »
I recently obtained a new to me Wagner Wafer iron variation.  I think it is late production.  It has a stylized, big W logo with the number 1451 on it.  First I've seen (thanks Amy  ;)).  You normally find this with a 1450 number.

If you have any of these late, big W irons, would you let me know if you have the 1451 marking?  I don't care about any other numbers unless it is NOT 1450 or 1451. ;D

The 1451 was listed in the 1941 catalog, the irons were completely discontinued in 1942.

A couple months ago I thought the wafer iron article was done.  Now a couple more pages.  Will be up near 40 now.

I'm leaning toward thinking this was made right near the end of production.  If you sit back and look at the pattern number on the photo of the paddle, there seems to be evidence of a pattern modification.  There seems to be circle where they may have filled in the 0 and inserted the 1.  The 1 looks a bit different, deeper, than the other numbers.  I've put on some red arrows pointing to the circle edge.  It is very faint and difficult to photograph.

It might be easier to see in the sideways picture of the 1451.  Look at how the 1s look different.

I've also included a closeup of the 1450.

Thanks Tom.   When I bought it I thought it was just another cute little wafer iron.   Didn't realize how unusual it was.  Guess I should have posted a picture. :-/

I have never seen a wafer iron in person, so I do enjoy seeing you alls. Keep em coming.  When that article is completed I do want an updated version Tom. ::)
