wagner 1220. square skillet
« on: January 04, 2014, 03:54:33 AM »
I have 2 wagner square skillets. one is a fully marked wagner 1220 a. The other is un marked yet completely identical. The problem Im having is I can find no information on them at all. I was told they are sisters to the 1218. but these are a decent amount larger. So any information on these would be appreciated. Like age, why one is marked and the other isnt and anything else. will post a pic as soon as I can.

A pic would help, but this is what I remember. The 1218 is square, not squareish, but square. The 1220 is sorta square, almost like one took a regular skillet and sorta pushed in the 4 sides. The sides are rounded. The 1218 is older from around the 30's, the 1220 from the 60's, so not sisters but closer to mother and daughter. ;D. The lid for the 1218 is hard to find and is cast iron, I believe that 1220 could use the same glass square lid that came on the Wagner Benedict Pan.

Some Wagner's are unmarked, maybe to sell to hardware stores, etc.

Two variations of the 1218. The thumb print handle ebay loaded with them , and an earlier variation with iron cover and regular skillet handle as Dwayne describes. 1220 is harder to find and I don't know of a cover for it iron or glass. I have a unmarked 1220, use all the time.

Travis,  I have told you as much as I know on Facebook.  You go everywhere on the web and ask the same questions.  Wagner made two sizes of this skillet.  1218 and the larger 1220.  I told you they made a glass lid for it,  and you told me you went back to the seller and got the lid.    The one not marked is probably newer and made in the 60's or 70's   The one pictured was made before 1958 and is a real Wagner.

I'd like to see the cover. Did not think they made one large enough for the 1220.

Do we have a pic? Don't remember seeing glass cover for 1220. I'd like to have one for mine.

yes Will I know you answered there. Yes I ask a lot to see if I can find anything else. The lid they found that was for it didnt fit so I dont have a lid. The main reason I keep asking is I cannot find a picture of it anywhere. and now that I have a matching set one marked and a unmarked they are even more interesting to me anyways. And I do appreciate your responses.

Well Travis  you ask as many questions as you want because if it was not for FB chances are real good you would have asked here first. Travis was the glass cover they had for the WW 1218 skillet ?

No it seemed to be off of a old casserole dish. It liked 2 inches fitting the 1220. And it was cracked. Now that I know those two have or may have had lids I'll have something to look for. Do you know if they were metal or glass and what number if any would be on them?

The cover for 1218 looks like this. This one is marked WW but not all are not marked but if I'm not mistaken the design in the glass is same. I don't know of a cover for the 1220, if someone has one post it please. The early 1218  takes an iron cover marked 1218, both of these are fairly HTF.

Here is my 1220 with a smaller unmarked 9 1/2" square skillet. Found the 1220 at a yard sale and almost left it behind. Had some surface rust on the bottom but it cleaned up good enough. They both love making cornbread. And I enjoy eating the cornbread they make.
