Gatemarked griddle, no idea...
« on: April 26, 2015, 12:57:14 PM »
Dropped into the flea market yesterday, older gent had a few cast iron pans. Wanted $40 for the lot, 2 made in taiwan - no thank you. Asked him what he wanted for the gatemark one. That piece of junk? Gimme $5 he says and i'll feel bad for charging that much.

Mine is in the lye bath at the moment, scrubbed the handle and there's a number 9 at the curve of the handle. Found these pics online, looks to be the one only the gate on mine is thicker.

Just had it out of the bath for a good scrub, few more pics. There's a slight upward bow in the flat of the pan but it sits flat. Number 9 is clear, no other markings that I can see.

I look forward to seeing it when you get it all finished.

So am I actually... It'll be a couple of days in the lye bath, very crudded up.

Thinking this is going to be an unidentifiable piece of history. There are a few others online, all unknown.
