Magee Skillet w/ gate mark
« on: April 24, 2015, 02:16:23 PM »
I picked up a Magee Furnace Company skillet with a gate mark today. I'm new to the hobby so I tried to research the web and this forum to learn about the company and the skillet; however, I can't find anything useful. I'd appreciate any information you could give me about the skillet. I do understand that gate marks typically indicate 19th century iron. I've also learned that the Magee Furnace Company was founded in 1864ish and went under in the 1920s. Any help with information and the value would be great. This is about a 10" skillet and only paid $10.

Looks like a really nice skillet.  Don't see those marked ones all that often. Hard to say on value, but I would say $50-75 range.  It depends on who wants it and how much they are willing to pay for it.  This is only if there are no conditions such as warping, hairline cracks, pitting, etc.  What state did you find it in?  Just curious.   :)

Little town called Duncan, Oklahoma.  I couldn't find any warpage. There is a gouge in the heat ring and the cooking surface  isn't as nice as a Griswold. I like it. The handle is unique.

Not all that far from me. Wish I could find one of those.   ;)
