Another Yardsale Find
« on: April 21, 2015, 02:06:58 PM »
Who could pass this up? The pig head souse mold is listed in the book "300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles" by Linda Campbell Franklin (pg 358).
It's sitting next to my Griswold rabbit and large lamb mold. All I need now is Santa watching over them. Maybe one of those small lamb butter molds too.
Oh, it was only $5.
It's spring. Get out there and take back the iron!

The kitchen Collectibles book states it could be mid 20th C. USA possibly PA iron. No one knows for sure at this point. But it's got that eclectic kitsch just screaming buy me!

An interesting example.  I think it is likely an Asian knockoff.  Casting looks rough, inside and outside.

I've attached a picture of mine.  The casting is smooth and pretty well done.

My guess would be not a lot of age, but an interesting example at a low price.

also looks like it has had its forehead bashed in and repaired.  Can see the welding and grinding on the front, and even see the damage on the inside.

I think that the best thing that these pieces can be used for is an ash tray. But I used one of these and made a mold of pan pudding. It turned out good. I used them little red cherries for eyes.
