Hammered Unknown Cast Iron
« on: February 21, 2014, 08:43:00 PM »
We have had past discussions on the unknown hammered cast iron pieces that are unknown, and affectionately dubbed HUUCI by some.... ::)

What pieces and sizes have you all found?

Skillets, DO's, Chicken Fryers, etc.

I have

#5 Skillet
#6 Skillet (oh, Jeff has that now!)  ;)

An 8.

I think it's the pretty common one that people have posted is believed to be from some unknown foundry in LA.  The handle seems slightly small for the skillet size, there are 3 dots under the handle, and the "8" is not centered on the top of the handle.

#8 skillet with B marking
#8 chicken fryer (with 1 dot marking?)
#8 skillet/chicken fryer lid (The 8 on the lid is at about 30
degrees to the line of the handle - with the handle at a
     line from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock, the 8 is at 8 o'clock.
It appears the handle was moved and lips were added to
make the skillet lid from the dutch oven lid - fill marks
appear on the skillet lid where the handle was moved.)
#8 dutch oven
#8 dutch oven lid (The 8 on the lid is at right angles to the
     handle.)
#6 skillet (Thank you, Cheryl - it's the only one I've seen
     or heard of!)
#5 skillets, with 3-dot, 4- dot, and 8c markings
#3 skillet with 3 dots in a triangular pattern
(I have also seen on Ebay, a #7 dutch oven and lid)

4- #8 Skillets
1- #8 DO with lid
1- #8 Chicken fryer with lid
3- #5 Skillets
1- #3 Skillet
The #8's have differing amount of dots. Among the 8's there is a slight size difference . Maybe 1/4 inch on the overall skillet. I see Jeff has a #6 skillet and I know they made a #7 DO.  What other sizes or out there?

I also have three toys.  Do they count?  :)

Al skillet: 3 in. across, about 4 1/2 in. long.
CI skillet: about the same size.
CI skillet: 3 15/16 in. across, 5 15/16 in. long.

No Paul, they don't count.  The hammered toys are Lodge, not HUUCI.

Paul, the Lodge toy I have, has a hammered handle. It hangs next to a hammered 1-notch Lodge skillet, beautiful. I also have a similar DO and lid.
The HUUCI skillets and CF, no hammered on the handles.

Every time I see this stuff on Ebay, I ask the vendor if they know who made it, when, where, any provenance, and no one has been able to provide any information. Very frustrating. I have had 2 separate family history accounts of 1940 or earlier, but that's all. WHO MADE IT?

Adding to the list of HUUCI

No.3 CI skillet with 2 dots under handle
No.5 CI skillet with 4 dots under handle

Both skillets came from the same estate and appear to be made by the same maker.

The numbers are on the top of the handles and are off centered

I'm looking for a lid for my no 8 fryer. If anyone has one they don't need, let me know. Thanks
I'd post a pic, but I get a message the photo file is too large.
