Greetings and Salutations!
« on: September 24, 2017, 08:33:16 PM »
New guy here. I'm not a BIG cast iron collector by any means. I Inherited some iron a few years ago that was a bit crustified. I found that I enjoyed cleaning and restoring the iron, so I've slowly begun "collecting."
Of course, for me, that means finding a piece at a thrift store, yard sale, friends garage, etc. I don't fancy newer pretty iron. At least not to buy. The grimier, the rustier and the crustier the better for me. I also enjoy trying to figure out WHAT I've cleaned. Sleuthing about for answers in regards to makers and years of origin is a pretty fun way to pass the time.
Finally...
I am NOT a cast iron snob. I couldn't care less about what's "rare" or "vintage." I just like finding, restoring and gifting out iron to those I know will appreciate the effort. They may hang them on the wall as decoration or throw them in with their camping goods. Either way, it makes me feel happy.
CHEERS!

Welcome, we like cast iron of all flavors and sizes. Never heard the term cast iron snob before.  I like it all and enjoy collecting and cooking with it and sharing it with anyone who has an interest.  Everything from brand new Lodge down to pieces from the mid 1800 and earlier.  Hope you enjoy our site.
As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

Hey!
I'm enjoying the site immensely.
Lots of interesting info.
I may have coined the term "cast iron snob" after interacting with a group of people at a flea market.
I was discussing a piece of iron from Taiwan that I had restored and was informed that "That s#!t is garbage. Why are you wasting your time? Restore something of value."
I laughed and laughed...
It hangs in my brother-in-law's cabin.
HE LOVES IT!

Thx for the reply!
