CORONA Madness.......
« on: March 12, 2020, 10:26:41 PM »
[size=12]I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy !!

Here in PA., the "Corona Madness" is ramping up daily !

Our Local Costco hit and ALL TIME record today for number of customers, and there are MANY BARE SHELVES!

Not a single package of TOILET PAPER, nor PAPER TOWELS is left in the building...

Ditto on bottled water (Which causes me to shake my head and ask why?) Water is flowing fine from my faucets!!

Every member of my household is considered "high risk" so we are trying to plan accordingly here.

Now, if any of you WAGS folks manage to find ANY bottles of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol, you make sure you grab all of it and ship it to ME!!  8-)

There aren't even any Alcohol pads anywhere, which are needed, for example, by folks with Diabetes, to administer insulin.........  (not here in my household, but others).

For the time being, I have a second choice back up, pictured below...
but if any one can find the 180 proof version, you should ship some to me!!  Here in Pennsyltucky, the law won't allow above the 151 proof!

Stay safe, and stay healthy everyone!

I hope that everyone stays safe.

My job changed a few months ago, and a job that I wanted finally came about, after trying for four years.  I am now a phlebotomist and a lab technician.  While I am more thankful for my job then anyone can understand, I am also rather troubled.  My job has never been more dangerous, with every pt I see, every tube of blood I draw, every room I enter.

Do your best to stay safe, and do not put yourself in harms way.  If you don’t need to go out and about, just don’t.  Quarantine yourself the best that you can, within reason.

[size=12]Since the beginning of "Flu Season", and since I was in an autoimmune deficient state, I have altered my excursions to, usually, late in the evening when fewer folks are in stores, I have been wearing a surgical mask to guard against "touch transference" ( I tend to be a face toucher), and nitrile gloves are on.  This was all 'before' the Corona Virus.  If the crowds appear too large(in the parking lots), I keep on driving by...

I have begun using Walmart Grocery pickup... they bring it to me, including any in store orders, and I only need to worry about contact with one person.

Amazon, and Walmart online ordering rules the day! Shipped.  (and now all boxes stay outside on the porch, and get a Lysol treatment before being touched. :) )

I am hoarding the few N95 masks that I have..........

Unfortunately, the other 2 members of the household have to go to a job every day, and in January 2019, one of them brought type A home, and I ended up hospitalized.  :(

P.S.  - When I worked my way thru college, one of my jobs was a phlebotomist and lab tech "assistant" in Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology Labs at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center.  That was a LOT of years ago, and before a lot of regulations were in place.... But... They had me doing things that even then,  were required to be performed by a Certified Lab Tech only. (I was NOT a Certified Lab Tech for sure!). Finally I moved on to a safer job (for me).  :)

Know the feeling. Working 30 years on a max. security prison unit, you NEVER let your guard down when it came to highly infectious disease!  Treated EVERYONE like they had something.
26 years in maintenance, raw sewage was a daily issue. Got one "state paid" series of hepatitis series vac.., then they became "denied" in the later years. Personal insurance would not pay as they said it was a workman's comp issue.
The Everclear...Looks like you gonna BURN it out, one way or the other [smiley=kaioken.gif]  :o  [smiley=food-smiley-022.gif]

I went to Price Chopper for my usual Friday morning grocery run after 7:30 AM coffee with the old guys from my wife's previous church.

I expected it would be like people were snowstorm prepping when they go nusto crazy.  Nope.  It was way, way worse.

Never seen anything like it.

I have enough food in the pantry and refrigerator to last a while.

Our issue with long-term quarrantine, if it comes to that, will be that I do a Carnation Breakfast Essentials shake most days for breakfast.  Nan does hot cocoa.  Need milk.  Have some powdered milk, since it is in the cornbread recipe I make.

Lunch just about every day is salad, yogurt, fruit, cheese.  Fresh food.

I think this thing is of serious concern BUT people have gone CRAZY! [smiley=crazy.gif] [smiley=crazy.gif] [smiley=kaioken.gif] [smiley=shocking.gif] [smiley=stop.gif]

The toilet paper aisle at our local Kroger and Walmart.  :-/ :-/  I was fortunate enough to find some at the local family dollar, they only had 2 packs. The cashier looked at me and I said, I’m not hoarding it, I have 2 children and we have 1 roll left.  She just giggled.

Our bread selection at the local grocery store.

Fortunately for my family, I make the bread

"The only thing to fear is fear itself." to quote FDR.
The local HEB was in sad shape yesterday, Wal-Mart was almost normal, with the only bare shelves in the canned vegetable (green beans and corn) and Miracle Whip aisles, and the local Brookshire Brothers' only had bare spots in the dried beans and rice aisle.  Didn't really check out the paper goods as I try to keep a couple of extra packages on hand.
Panic creates panic. If we all remain calm, things will turn out for the best. 8-)

I bought a larger package of TP than I normally do a little while ago since it was a weekly coupon in the Price Chopper flyer.  Have 15-plus, 1,000-sheet rolls left.

I asked how many rolls folks have on a car web site.  One guy said that he set up TP for Amazon automatic delivery with a guess of what they use.  He was way off, and just hasn't gotten around to cancelling.  It gets delivered, he throws it in the basement thinking he needs to cancel, then it slips his mind.  He said he must have 160 - 170 rolls in the basement.  ;D

All restaurants and bars, in Ohio, with the exception of drive thru’s, are officially closed.

On a positive note, Gulf Coast Distillery has revamped and started producing hand sanitizer instead of vodka and other spirits.  This from KPRC Channel 2, Houston.

Yeah, it's too early in the season to stock up on corn cobs and Sears Roebuck catalogs are no longer in print. The next run will be on newspapers, advertising circulars and coffee filters. [smiley=laugh.gif]

For many years we've used our Aldi for basic staples, and the last two times i shopped there they were limiting many  items to two, and meats to one per variety which i really appreciated as most all items were available for purchase. Asked about if  T paper would ever grace the shelves again and the manager shook his head and said when this blows over he anticipates people coming in and wanting to return it for credit, said he isn't  going to let that happen.

I hate to admit it but since I have not been to a thrift store, yard sale or flea market since the beginning of this mess(Early January) I think I am losing interest, yes I still like a nice piece of vintage iron but my desire to go out and find them has substantially diminished, In January both people in my household were very sick, we had congestion, cough, and most of the symptoms of the virus, I am not sure if we actually had the current one but we definitely had something other than the common cold, We had gotten our flu shots in the fall so I don't think we had the common flu but who knows, We isolated ourselves back then because we have both young children and older seniors in our families that we did not want to chance passing our flu to so that worked out for everyone in our family as well.

Anyway...have been getting some things done around our home that we have neglected, We live in a rural area and have no close neighbors so we have no real problems with being out on our property without coming into contact with people.
In closing....Hoping everyone is doing well...and when this is finally over that everyone is healthy and can get on with your lives.

May god bless you all and your families and if you do not believe in god may you be lucky in your lives.
Valerie

Except for grocery store or feed store once a week each I am under "house arrest". Wife has to go to work as she is in banking.
I started recently working on projects I said I would tackle when I retired. I am there!! I have found stuff that I put back for use as far back as 45 years ago! :o Tools, like cast iron at a GOOD price,  was always hard to pass up. Plus I inherited my Daddy's tools as well as my Grand Daddy's tools. Screws, nails nuts, bolts, washers of all sizes. Same with lumber and iron. "Pack Rat" must be a disease :'( With mowing the grass, it keeps me busy these days [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Y'all stay WELL & SAFE out there! God Bless!

My hand sanitizer backup.  Ran across it at a local Walmart.  In the past it was illegal in the state.  Only bottle of booze I've ever seen with a danger flammable warning on it. ;D

Tom, my son works at a local hospital in nursing. There is an UNOFFICIAL formula floating around using Everclear, Aloe Gel and some other add mixes to make hand sanitizer. As a kid, I heard that stuff would etch the enamel on your teeth if drank straight [smiley=Drunk.gif] As they say, any port in a storm...And this is the PERFECT storm :'(   STAY SAFE!
