Hello everyone! I just joined the society a little over a week ago. I've been interested in cast iron since early this spring. Was wanting to cook with CI, but wanted to study up on it before I jumped in. Learned quite a bit from cast iron cookware on YouTube and when I joined cast iron cooking and recipes on Facebook my interest really took off. Been cooking up a storm ever since. I've always had cast iron in general in the back of my mind because my maternal Grandfather in the 30's to late 40's worked in the foundry department of FMC in Hoopeston, Illinois, a manufacturer of vegetable processing and canning machinery. He would occasionally cast cast iron items for family. My cousin has a couple of griddles he made, and I have a 19"tall wall hanging he called Goliath after the Biblical character. It's the only one in the family that still exists that I'm aware of. Check out my post with pictures on the Facebook chat group. I'm wanting help in IDing the griddle he used for a pattern.
Anyway, I've got some Lodge and vintage, but have fallen in love with Favorite Piqua. My house, kitchen, and counter space is small so my collection is small compared to many of you, but I try to cook with them all. Just baked a Bourbon Cake for New Year's in my Lodge Bundt pan.
My jewel of a find was a small stack of 5 skillets my nephew-in-law picked up for me in an Indiana junk shop for $2 to $3 each. One was a BSR Red Mountain #4 skillet!
I love all the history and background WAGS has. Hope information on WAPAK and ONETA shows up!
God Bless!
