It shouldn't be so hard

I've been on the lookout for a Wagner Ware Sidney-o- #7 smooth bottom pan. I can't find anything without the heatring.
Trying to gather as many sizes as I can of the same skillet. Smooth Sidney-o- seemed like an easy target.

Also striking out on the #4 pan.

Not so easy.  4, 7, 9, 11+ are hard finds (except maybe 12).  Congratulations on the ones you have acquired.

In my opinion, no matter what series you choose, there is always one or more that are hard.  For instance, Griswold small logo would ideally include the 10 grooved handle.  I think there is 1 known.

Enjoy the hunt, enjoy the cooking, and just keep at it.  The feeling of success to find a rare piece is much greater if it is long-sought vs stumbled on it without ever recognizing it.  Of course, the deferred day of recognition does deserve mention but it's not the same.

Well said Neal!  Craig, there are numerous anomalies in the cast iron world.  But the thrill of finding exactly what you are looking for is very rewarding.

Craig, just to clarify... you are looking for a #7 Stylized Logo. Smooth Bottom Wagner, Catalog Number 1057, correct?

Correct. The 4 and the 7 seem to be scarcer than some of the others.

I expect I'll never see a #2. I think I have a 10 located. And the rest of the larger ones will be searched out later.

It was overpriced on ebay. I talked the guy down considerably. Free shipping sealed the deal for me.

I've seen two others since that were far out of my price range.

Ebay has got plumb out of reach in lots of auctions. "Tried" to buy a lid for a # 7 Wagner Round Roaster recently. No deal.  :cry:

Agreed, ebay auctions have gotten out of hand.  Few feelings worse than, after submitting a bid so much higher than you ever wanted, watching it slip away in the last 5 seconds. :angry:
