Plating
« on: September 05, 2023, 04:33:41 PM »
I recently received a Wagner pan that seems to be plated. Or at least partially plated.

Is there a way to remove the rest of the plating so I have a pan worth seasoning and using?

Short answer... no.
What is the Catalog number on pan?

And does a magnet stick to it?

Yes to the magnet.

It may or may not be plated. I've never seen a pan so shiny and smooth. But I've also never seen a plated pan.

I actually cannot tell for certain either.

A Trip thru the Lye bath and it should be clearer.

It may just be a well polished factory finish!

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
If it's not plated then I have a great lil pan.

My guess is that it is NOT plated, but just a example of fine craftsmanship in the foundry trade. :scratchchin:

That does not look plated. Keep cleaning!

The plated skillets I have or that I remember seeing were all heavily used and have a blueish tint somewhere on them.  Your skillet looks well used, but I don't see the tint.  Maybe that's a good sign.
