Griswold Single Burner Stove Hot Plate
« on: June 22, 2024, 10:15:38 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm a lurker and a huge Griswold fan.  I own a few vintage pieces, which I cherish dearly.  Lately I've been on the hunt for a Griswold single burner stove.  I would love to find a working piece, but it's not a deal breaker if it's not working.  My home is filled with primitive pieces/decor, so I'd prefer a No 601 or a No 201, as I noticed these ones are super plain (my style).  That is, not too ornate like the No 501, but even this isn't a deal breaker.  Basically I'd love to have a single burner, which I intend to use.

Here's a link to one I fell in love with on reddit:  https://www.reddit.com/r/CastIronRestoration/comments/vrnck6/griswold_single_burner_hot_plate_restoration

Anyway, thanks!
Valerie

Hello Val and welcome to the Forum.

Unfortunately I'm unable to open the Reddit link you posted above.  If you can, save a copy of the picture and attach it to a post here.  If you have a problem attaching it here, email it to me and I'll add it to this thread.

Hopes this helps.

Cut and paste to the url line worked for me.  That is actually a pretty nice piece that someone might pay extra for based on style and condition.  I don't think that reddit page was a sales page.

There will be a notable price difference between examples like the restored one on reddit.  You can find single burners that are fairly similar on ebay or other sites.  Be patient, and you will get a good price, although it will probably still be a project to clean up.
Best Regards,
Neal

Thanks Neal.  I agree it definitely wasn't a sales page, but it made me "want" a Griswold No. 601 single burner lol.  I'm determined to be patient and have my search techniques all ready to go.

Thanks so much Corinne.

Welcome to the Forum, Val.  Most of us have been bitten by the Griswold bug at one time.  Some have been permanently infected.  Sometimes it is Griswold skillets, sometimes waffle irons, sometimes kettles, etc. that bites us.

That restoration appears to have been very well done.  I'm sure it is a lot of detail work.  Good luck with your shopping.

Thanks Jim.  I didn't know I was infected until coming here.  It's real and I'm glad I'm not alone lol.  For some reason I just feel better knowing y'all have it too.

Thanks to the articles on restoration/cleaning I've found here, I'm pretty sure I can do as good a job at the piece shown in my OP.  I'm so excited about trying out the techniques, that I want to restore my everyday Griswold pan.  It's not in the best shape, which is why I use it for everything; don't have to worry about ruining it.

Thanks Val.
I never really thought about having one of the stoves in my possession but now you have me thinking. Which rarely ends up a good thing

Haha, glad I could help Craig!

I'm sure you would be super happy with a 2-burner solution

I have a two burner Griswold stove which I bought years ago and haven't touched it.  Maybe in 2024 I will get around to it.  But whenever I do the stove will be a user, not a showpiece.  And, Val, you are right, you are not alone, you are among a group of enablers.

Val, if you buy Blake's stove and restore it, please post photos of it.  We love photos here, particularly restoration photos!
