Hello everybody. I wanted to let you all know that I still have some of these catalogs for sale. You can read about them and see them here on this thread. They are an excellent source and its not often that you get to look into the past as you can with this catalog. It is complete, 112 pages, and they are 25.00 each including shipping. Thanks.  :)

Perry, I don't know if I told you how much I like this catalog. There are pieces in ther that I never knew existed. It gives me quite a few things to watch out for while hunting.

For those who don't have Perry's catalog yet, it's more than worth the money.

Thank you very much Sandy. And I did respond to Bob. But I can use all the help I can get, so thank you again. And just so I don't forget anybody, just IM me and I'll get you a catalog out. It cost me quite a bit of money to get this catalog done. Roy Meadows bought the first catalog that I made money on, so he put me over the top. Thank you Roy, and of course thanks to all the folks that bought these from me. And also, I got more so if you or anybody you know wants one, please contact me.  :)

These old catalog reprints really have  a lot of information.  But usually when someone goes to all the time, trouble, and expense to have them reprinted they only have so many of them made and when they are all gone they are  gone and never to be reprinted again, kind of a limited edition type of thing. Besides the reprint Perry has for sale  Greg still has some other reprints for sale on his website as does Dave Smith on his web site.  Again the info in these is really a great reference and a part of the history of our hobby.   If you think you might want one of these reprints you need to get one while they are still available.  Perry really did a great job getting his catalog reprinted to share with us.  Perry, I'll give you $25 plus shipping for the original catalog. ;)  Mike

Hello Mike. Thank you kindly for the offer, but I'll have to pass.  ;) ;D

Sometimes the story behind the piece is good also. In this case, the guy that I got the catalog from, gave, it was either fifty or seventy-five cents and it was in a box of junk. And it came from College Hill, Pa.

That is a great story.

I admit that those boxes of junk at stores and flea markets put me off...so I have to force myself to dig through them.  Your catalog will remind me that every box or heap of junk is worth sorting through....

Mary, never underestimate the power of a bax lot.  ;D  I've found some good stuff hiding in the bottom of those things. I don't buy box lots unless I find a good piece hiding in there. One of my last boxes yeilded an Iron Mountain #4. Got the box for $1.25 .  :) :)  I'm not saying that you should buy only box lots, and hope you find something, but you should give them a good look.

Chuck - Thanks for the encouragement to sort through those boxes. Your buying philosophy sounds good to me....often one piece alone can make it worth it.  Sounds like a good deal that you got on the last lot.

Ever sonce Perry came across the original to this catalog, I've been spending a bit more time looking through some of the "paper" at auctions, and flea markets. It would be great to find another version of this one, or even the same one.

When I first started collecting cast iron I did not pay much attention to 'paper', but I must admit that it has taken on a whole new perspective for me. There is another Griswold Catalog that I would love to see published, and its a little later than the 1895/96 one. Some folks are of the opinion that in order to reproduce a catalog that the original must be destroyed. While this may have been true at one time, and I don't know or think it was, but today with the technology, the original does not have to be destroyed.

So there are other catalogs out there that compare to this one. If you find one Chuck, will you get it reproduced, or will you take it to your bank and have them lock it up in a vault, and then you can go in once every leap year and get it out and look at it, and make sure nobody is looking over your shoulder, lest they see it.  ;D ;D ;D

Like you Perry, I would get it reproduced, and share it with everyone. No sense in hiding it away. I would want everyone to see what these cast iron artists did back in the day.

I just got one of these catalogs and have to say that it is fantastic!  Perry you did a great printing job...all the fine details on the catalog pictures and lettering is super crisp.  The binding is excellent.  One would expect to pay lot more for a reprint of this quality.

To any one who has not yet purchased one of these...get one..you will not regret it.  A steal at the price and has quite a few items not yet in the BB or RB....

Thanks again for making this available to the rest of us :)

Thank you for the kind and supportive words Mary. As far as I know, that fancy umbrella stand is only featured in that one catalog, I may be wrong, but thats how I know it. I don't know if we have ever seen a picure of that umbrella stand, for real. I forget if it was posted here or not.  :-/
