Century #5 with Original Label
« on: March 14, 2020, 03:58:04 PM »
Every once in a while, a blind hog finds the proverbial acorn.  Mindie and I were circling back home towards Camilla and the Lake Livingston Dam from Coldspring and found the little resale shop/antique store open for the first time in several years.  In amongst the miscellaneous other junk, I found a jewel. Starting at $15, I finally picked this little never used #5 Century up for $9.  My first brand spanking new piece of Cast Iron ever. :bananax: :ds_imbouncvegphp:

Great
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.

For some reason, my photos generate an error 413 message: Request too large.

Thank you Cheryl for the How-to article on resizing pictures for posting. I finally read it in depth, and hopefully this will work now.

Thanks for posting that one Lee. I haven't seen that label before. It's nice to see things like this still being posted.

It was my pleasure to do so. I was highly surprised to find the skillet in as good shape as it is, much less with the label intact and in the shape it is in.  I know that it is only a BSR, as opposed to Wagner, Griswold, Favorite, etc. but some of my best users are BSR, including my mother's #14, pictured here with a mixed berry cobbler with berries from my back yard. This was one of my contributions to our yearly family reunion.

I have a similar label in/on my BSR hotel skillet also.
Like Lee, have been using BSR for a long time ( 58 years ), started cooking in them when I was 15  and have seen the demand for then increase to the point that they have become harder to find in the last few years, and when you do find one you don't have it costs 10 times what they were bringing just 3-4 years ago.
