After burning up a couple of pairs of gloves i finally found something to hang onto a hot skillet with tried it out this evening and it works great.

Well Howard, where did you get this ov glove? How much do they cost? They look like the cats meow. Somebody else said something on here about some kind of gloves but I don't recall them saying where they got them or any other particulars about them, other than to say they worked good.

I believe Walgreens and maybe Kmart carries them.

They don't look very thick though.  How well do they insulate from the heat? I've heard of nomex -- is that what they're made with?

K-Mart has them. I think I've seen them at Kerr Drugs, as well.

They run about $15-$16 each glove. If memory serves, they're rated up to 500*. They're made to quickly move hot items. The heat will build up if you hold an item too long. When baking something at 350*,for example,  they're fine for taking the pan out of the oven to put on a cooling rack. They're good, too, working around a grill or smoker.

Wife picked mine up at Walgreen's , the box says they are rated to 480 deg. made of Nomex & Kevlar, had a skillet in the oven at 450 took it out to oil it and hand just got warm much better than the lrather glove's i was using before, the leather ones were getting so hot you had to get it off quick when you started to feel the heat.

I have the same glove and have been using it for awhile.  It does a good job but heat does get through at times (if iron is held for too long) as Lee stated.  The glove is not bulky and is very flexible.  I just make sure I have a place to set the iron down if needed.  The glove cools very quickly and iron can be picked up again.  Mike
