Finally!!! I'm Getting BARRELS!

After darned near 3 years, I am finally getting some open head plastic barrels!  [smiley=banana11.gif] [smiley=bananax.gif] [smiley=banana11.gif]

I did locate a place upcountry from me (45 min or so) that has had them available (2+ years ago), called and got information, but was not  successful in stealing the F150 from the other half to make the trip.

I noticed their website now had a statement regarding delivery... so... made some calls, and the barrels are coming to me!

Now I will be able to keep the lye baths in place over the winter with much less worry about freezing/cracking of the Rubbermaids!  Yay!

And with straight sides, and reclosable lids to boot, on all sizes!

Hopefully in the next week or two, I will receive 55 gal, 30 gal, and 15 gal
sizes, all HDPE, and start planning more permanent locations!

And more electros....... ::) ::)

Barrels are here!  Now that was fast, efficient service!!
Now if only Spring would arrive. :(

Why wouldn't you just punch a hole in the bottom of the ss barrel? Water would get in and you would be cleaning from the bottom up. As it is, it appears to me that you have thrown away a part that would have provided good cleaning. Why?  :-/ :-/

Perry, the two barrels will have the top removed, and the bottom will stay intact.

The piece shown with solution, is a circle that is "open" with no top or bottom.  That is the way they were found.


So, I am getting 2 barrels (they are small ones) which will be open on one end.

I will also be receiving 2 of the open circles, and will simply add a SS plate on the bottom... as I have bunches of those too! (or can use the top from one of the barrels.... ). 

Lots of options.
And I still like my plate system for skillets, griddles, etc.....  :)

Will the SS barrels go into the plastic barrels?..or just use the SS barrels as the electro itself.

Haven't decided yet... will probably set the barrels inside a non-conductive container, just to avoid an accidental 'shock' [smiley=kaioken.gif]

with electrolyte inside the ss barrel only......

Someone posted a pic of their setup...I forget who and can't find it..but the bottom piece was separate and had short pvc pipe spacers underneath..and a gap all around the edge. Then you could reach down with a broom or something and sweep the sediment off the bottom piece so it doesn't block the process..or even lift it out without having to drain the whole barrel.  Would make the barrel easy to lift out too for cleaning if ever needed.  I know you know what you're doing, but it might be something to consider.  ;)
