Manual Battery Charger
« on: November 17, 2014, 02:54:25 PM »
OK. So I looked locally for a manual battery charger for my electrolysis tank and have come up empty.  Also tried Craigs List and ebay.
Found one on ebay, bought it only to find they can't send a manual charger to California (CA law).
I guess I will use my automatic charger while I keep looking for a manual charger.  Bummer. :(

If anyone has a "spare" charger they'd like to pass on, I'd be interested.

Unfortunately, it is showing as not available at my local SamsClubs.

and I am hoping that they are not discontinued.....

Thank you Cheryl and Sandy for the info.  It's a 30 minute drive to Oregon and there is a Harbor Freight there. I'll check them out next trip up there.

Maybe a thread should be started on usable power sources?

Something like this for $80 would work fine - 12V, 47 AMPS.

Thanks Robert.  I don't know why I didn't think of using a 12vdc power supply.  I have one somewhere in my treasures in the garage but I don't remember what the output is or why I have it.  Sound familiar?

Can you point out one instance of a power supply used or suggested other than a battery charger? There's hundreds of posts in that section.

I nearly went out and spent a few hundred on a charger when i realized electrolysis only requires basic 12v - didn't cost anything for my PSU. If it dies, I have a dozen more ready for use.

The one titled "Electrolysis Power Supply" would be one... ;)

I've even used my DC arc welder.  Works REAL fast, but it tends to boil away 5 gallons of water in a few hours.  Hot water = wasted energy.  20 amp battery charger is more than enough.

So, this thread...

http://www.wagnerandgriswold.org/Attachments/CR1317857856.pdf

Mentions battery chargers, and yeah, we all have arc welders kicking around.

I didn't understand electrolysis when I got back into cast, I do now. Now I understand that there are many power sources that can be used - cheap/free and very effective. Sorry if I rattled any cages.
