Cheryl, thanks for moving this info over to the new forum.  I studied these photos and read all the info on fire-damaged iron on the old forum last summer when I was  starting to get into acquiring pieces. It was an excellent tutorial on what NOT to buy.  I recommend to all my fellow newbies out there that they study these photos.  This info saved me money and disappointment.

Is this something you would call "Fire Damaged"?  There is a horrible crown in the center of this pan that I assume is not there normally.

That one is a tuff call... I would say maybe... it would need to be cleaned first to see what color is under the rust.

but the inward warp would kill it for me, whether there is obvious fire damage or not... clearly not flat , possibly from overheating.

I know that huge bump in the middle makes me sad.  I was looking for a good square collectible to use at home, but this one would only be good for deep frying.

Nathan, on this thread many of the items shown are fire-damaged from throwing them in a Bon-Fire to 'clean' them.... [smiley=yikes.gif] [smiley=yikes.gif]   Hence the permanent discoloration.

The skillet you asked about most probably has "heat" damage from sustained high heat under the pan.  IMO... :)

LOL @ the seller describing it in "fair condition". That pan is worth it's weight in scrap and not much more.

UGH!!  I just got sick looking at the last set of pictures.  That poor ERIE skillet... there are probably a half dozen heat fractures hidden on that thing.

Here is a Griswold easy clean cover that appears to have been "cleaned" in a fire.  The top surface shows some of the purplish-red oxidation that is typical of this method.  The interesting thing is that the porcelain coating has been cracked.
