Question about a PIQUA waffle iron
« on: November 03, 2006, 02:32:54 AM »
Hello again and I got another question. I  am going to a auction soon that has a favorite PIQUA  cast iron waffle iron and was wondering what would be a fair price to give for the piece. I do have a picture of the piece but is not a real great picture.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly apperciated.

well book value for that one is about $75-100.  I would think it is more likely in the $40-60 range in the market currently

I paid $85 for mine, but it was a prize!  Beautiul condition!  That was about 4 years ago.

I bought a low base Piqua just like yours for about $35 2 years ago. Not sure if the high bases sell for more or not?

Well I didnt have much luck on either one. The waffle iron went for $110 real quick like and they didnt have no problem getting bids on it although it sure was in good shape. And sorry Maria the table went for $80 and I gave up on it at $ 50. Well back to CI hunting for me and dont be surprized if I am asking more questions soon.I am I guess what you would call a newbie but I learn quick. Thanks everybody.  SAM

Consider joining WAGS, if you have the cast iron bug like many of us.

Sam, I would have dropped out at fifty bucks on the table, too, though eighty is still a decent price. They're really neat, but I have... um... four of them  now and never paid more than $50 for any of the three I bought. (One was my grandmother's that I inherited.)

Maria, you're still around here?  Don't give up on us yet; we're all (virtually all) trying to haul you back to us.  Stay tuned.

Sam, I would say that the $110 the waffle iron went for was very high.  Ebay should offer a much cheaper alternative although, since the recent auction of the Dave Schultz collection last month, prices and interest in Favorite may have gone up.

Oh yeah, I'm not that easy to get rid of.  ::)

Speaking of waffle irons (not Piqua, just waffle irons), I picked up this one this morning

just because I need another waffle iron. :) The Family, capital F, is descending on us for Thanksgiving and one waffle iron is just not going to do it.

Maria,

I would be interested in the diameter of the paddles of your W/I.  I have Wagner one that does not have a number, but with the same patent date.  The paddles are 8 and 5/16 inches in dia.

Thanks, Ellis

Okay, Ellis, whenever it gets here I'll measure it for you. :)

I have some spare wood handles around here somewhere - my father-in-law turned me a few sets out of walnut a few years ago and I have yet to use them up. Not sure how bad these will turn out to be, but if they need replaced, I'll be ready.

Ellis, my waffle iron got here today, and I promptly dumped it into the lye bath having forgotten to measure it for you. I will do it after I can handle it again. :)

The poor thing was clanking around in a flat rate Priority box. It's a wonder it didn't crack.

Handles in the lye bath?  If so they are going to be no good soon if not already.  I hope you removed them first.

Nonononono, no handles.  :o LOL! The handles are rolling around on the kitchen counter, safe from the lye but not from getting lost... I'd better go rescue them.
