question about a cornbread  pan  MERRY X
« on: December 16, 2006, 11:16:12 PM »
Hi guys and gals and first things first HAPPY HOLIDAYS  Ok I am wondering about this muffin  pan I just got at a auction yesterday. I will include some pictures but I dont know how they will turn out so let me tell you a few things I do know about the piece. First it measures 12 1/4 inches long and 7 3/8 wide.It has writing on both handles and on one handle it says PATENT APRIL 5 1859 and on the other handle I cannot make out the writing although I am pretty sure the first letter is a R. On the backside there is a raised number 5. OK I sure would apperciate any info on the piece or any idea of its worth. Thanks  SAM

Well, I'll be!  We were just talking about R & E Mfg. Co. gem pans (and Waterman gem pans) as always being side gated and, yet, yours does look to be bottom gated.  These are fairly common, nice pans made in 11 styles or shapes of cups.  1-8 are all shallow cups; 9 is a golfball pan, 10 a popover pans and 11 a french roll pan.  Not too much value for these pans but it's fun trying to put a full set together.  They sell in the $15 to 50 range usually.
