Perry, your right they are small here. But that's because most are 18 months old. One way or the other you can shoot a deer a day from September through February, and we are still over run. So not many live very long, but they breed FAST! I would love to hunt were they get to 200 lbs. Here that kind of weight gets you in the state record book.

Robert, I have an old picture of me skinning one that weighed over 200 pounds field dressed. Let me see if I can find it.

2 average Ohio Deer. Look at the neck on that one. You don't grind the shoulders on these big ones before you cut a roast off first. And I bet a steak cooked on the grill pan with the lid sure would taste good..... :)

Iowa, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, they are all in the corn belt. Deer in these areas eat like cattle, and they get big. I know of cases, around here, where the deer come up and eat out of the cattle feeders, oh, theres a fence around the cattle, NOT a problem.  ;)

Your right Perry.  Deer don't care about fences.  I have witnessed with my own four eyes several deer clearing an 8 foot fence.  I am originally from southern Iowa and they have too many deer.  I may be mistaken, but just by one or two, but I think that if you hunted every season you could get a tag for you could legally shoot 13 deer!  Like fish in a barrel and there are still plenty to hit with your car!

I really believe we should have a WAGS deer hunting season one year.  I would love to shot with some of you folks and eat some fresh venison after the kill.  ANyone want to arrange that?  I'll be there any year any time.  Bow, muzzleloader or rifle.

Well Greg, I have a wonderful set of knives and I guarantee you that I can cut meat faster than it can be cooked and eaten, if thats saying anything, so your idea sounds like a wonderful idea.

I am sure that I can find land to hunt deer on in SW Iowa.  The problem is that it will cost better than $500 to kill a deer if you are from out of state!!!  Apparently the Iowa DNR knows that people want to come to Iowa for the chance to kill a huge buck.  Seems like a lot of money when someone from in state can kill one for $50.

Jeff, same problem in IL from what I understand...I hear complaints from out-of-state friends that it costs too much for them to hunt deer here.

...but a WAGS deerhunt sounds awwesome....and Perry, I'd be honored to let you butcher my deer  :D

That would be a great time. I only have 15 acres of land but can take as many as "I" want on a land owners permit.......... :) Other wise the permits do get costly.
