#6 Slant Erie with a hairline crack
« on: January 27, 2014, 03:42:39 PM »
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171223301108?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1587.l2649

I sold this on ebay and I clearly said it had a hairline crack near handle . It sold for more than what I paid for it a year and a half ago I just don't understand. :-?

Well, the mention of the hairline crack is in the description (smaller font), not in the Title, nor the large font description down the page.

My guess is that the buyer did not read the finer print.

Well if that is the case I will gladely refund all money to the buyer ... I found hairline crack after add was already posted and you could tell that it had happened after the seasoning .. I think it happened when I brought it in from the cold front porch to the heated house.. But not sure ..It says in two places that it is cracked where you place your bid and right above the add itself. I did not try to hide the fact it was cracked and no bids was placed on this item befor I noted in add that it was cracked ..

And it could be the buyer did read the entire listing in detail... and didn't care, and wanted it anyway.

You will find out if the buyer squawks... :)

I am still constantly dismayed, in today's world, how many people just don't read anything!!.... ever.....

Even if you tatooed it on their forehead, and stood them in front of a mirror!!  (which would be amusing, to read it backwards...) ;D ;D

Like Cheryl said,  I looked all over the auction and never saw that it was cracked until I looked in the subtitle.  I didn't even see it in the description.  Should have put that in the description and a good picture of the crack.   Good luck with it.

It says it in item descption and item specifics both locations. I also have sent buyer a message letting them know of crack just in case they did not read the add in full ...

Albert, can you post the picture here and point out where the crack is? I looked at the auction pictures, and I just can't see it.

I can see you state it has a crack in that little small type in

Seller Notes:       “This is a great skillet but it has gotten a small hairline crack near the handle some how.”

But in your big colorful write up,  you fail to mention it.

Right here is where I explaned about what happened so take it as you will .. I am not defending this or debating it any longer if I have done anything wrong bring it to the ethics board. I was honest and your busting my chops for being honest it was in the add in two diffrent places maybe not in the big add that was already writen but added after the crack was found in item condtion and item specifics.

I am just saying in the MAIN writeup you don't have in the description that it is cracked.  Well,  like I said.....good luck.

Buyer contacted me after I sent the message to him stateing about the crack just to make sure he knew it had on .. He did and is happy with the purchase ...I also asked if he found where I had stated it had a crack easyly and he also said yes to that also.. So I guess some do read whats in front of the and some don't I am glad this guy reads what in front of him..

That pan is a beauty, Albert. It'll still make good cornbread! And that's why it went for that price. Would have been twice that without the crack, I'll bet. I'm currently on the hunt for a #6. Can a crack like that get worse with use?

Yes.  Especially when it is near the handle, where the stress is greater.
I won't restore or use skillets with a crack at a handle. Just don't feel it's worth the risk of dumping hot grease etc if it gives way.
I do have several users with very thin hairlines at other spots, farther away from the handle........

Albert, I was filling in time perusing old threads, and this one of yours certainly qualifies as an old one.
I couldn't understand what all the hooha was about.

Even with my aged eyesight, the full description was as plain as day to me; a person would have to be blind Freddy not to have seen the clear description of a crack. :D

If people who are illiterate are frequenting auction sites and unable to comprehend what has been written, then that is another kettle of fish. One that is out of our control or influence............

Wonders off scratching my head in wonder and bemusement ::)

Okay, I see it in the sellers notes and in the item description at the top. I think what Will was saying was it was not clearly added to the large print listing. I do not believe anyone was busting anyone's chops. People here bend over backwards to help one another.
