Joe,
The U pan is in the blue book I think at $50-$60....but as you know, Wagners struggle to bring half that.  STill a great buy!!!!!!

Joseph,
Wagner U pans are rare but still usually don't bring a whole lot.  Does your U have the WagnerWare trademark on it or just the name Wagner or Wagner Ware?

You sure that the Griswold "cookie sheet" comes marked as such?  I thought the name cookie sheet was made up by collectors since the pan looks like one.  On p.59 of blue book it is shown marked as a CAST IRON GRILL.

Steve,

You have such a wealth of information!  Is that the Griswold #18 you are talking about??  It does look like a cookie sheet, but is marked as a "Family Grill."  It looks nice and wide.......Joe will have to fry his bacon on that instead of baking cookies.  I wouldn't mind having a griddle that was a bit wider than my Wagner......isn't quite wide enough for the bacon, and I have to "smoosh" it up a bit when I put it on.

I'm not sure a cast iron cookie sheet would be practical....I think it would be very hard to get out of the oven....considering the size and weight.   I have a bit of trouble with some of my DO's, and I know my Wagner griddle weighs a ton.  I would hate to pull that out of the oven!  I think Steve may be right....and I never even thought about it being a griddle.  See how much you learn on this forum??

The gem pan is marked with Wagner on one cup and ware on anothere and then the U on anothere, as for the cookie sheet I remember seeing one marked cookie sheet on ebay last year unless it was somthing someone added to it but I was under the impreshion that they made some that way, as for as the mesurments the griddle is only 18x10 with a 3/8 lip

Marty,
It's Dave's book that calls the grill a Family Grill but the piece, itself, is marked CAST IRON GRILL.  Maybe Griswold marketed it as a "Family Grill".  If so I wish the book had mentioned that instead of leaving it up to the reader to figure out where the name Family Grill came from.   Griswold's oval skillets are marked only OVAL SKILLET yet they are often called Fish Skillets.  That may be because Griswold DID catalog it sometimes as an OVAL FISH SKILLET.  Could that be the case with "Family Grill"?  I was looking in my catalogs to try to find one listed but to no avail.  Anyone know what catalog it may be shown in?  Probably late 30's to 50's would be my guess.

I don't think the 18 griddle was ever marked cookie sheet, at least I've never seen one. I looked thru my meager supply of catalogs and I don't have it listed. Marty, the 18 grill is a lot easier to handle than the regular griddles with a thinner casting and overall less weight. This is my wife's favorite piece to cook with and she raves about it for cookies and hard candy. I bought my first one years ago and also received a lesson on how short a time period a nano-second is. That was how long it took the little lady to confiscate the grill for her use. I've never seen it again because she keeps it in that white "box" in the kitchen that gets hot on top and spews out a turkey twice a year. I keep away from that thing. As a side note, years later I got to re-confirm the length of time of a nano-second. It's how long it took me to get used to retirement.

You are correct.....it is just marked "cast iron grill".  I was looking in the blue book, 2nd ed., page 59 and the description calls it a family grill, but it is not marked as such.  Now all of this discussion has piqued my interest, and I shall have to look for one of these.    Will just add it to my "I want" list!"

I can't wait to see it, Joe!  You baked those cookies on your new toy just to make me go off my diet!!!!  I think you got a great deal on that grill/cookie sheet.  I really need to start going to garage sales!  Thanks for sharing this with all of us.....it really is fun to see what everyone else finds and buys!  I think we should start a topic called  "Great Buys."
