Just "SIDNEY"?
« on: September 23, 2003, 04:50:58 PM »
Did the old Sidney Hollow ware Co. make anything else with just Sidney on it like some skillets?  I saw a waffle iron last week that only had SIDNEY on it.  Would that have been Sidney Hollow ware?

Also saw a waffle iron with S. A. WORKS,  SIDNEY, OHIO?

I think they did Jerry.  If you mean in script Sidney.  If you mean in block SIDNEY I think those pieces may be from the old Sidney Hollow Ware foundry after Wagner bought them.  That's only my guess however.  I have a very early SIDNEY No.1 oval roaster just like the Wagner marked ones.   In fact,  the WAGNER looks like it was filled in in the pattern.   Not much to go on in the blue book is there?  Any collectors specialize in Sidney Hollowware?

The Sidney wasnt in script like the old skillets.  It was block letters.

Jerry,
Would the SIDNEY marking but like the No.2 skillet p. 233 blue book or the two skillets top of  p.11 in red book?  The only explanation I can think of is that those marks came from the Sidney Hollowware foundry that Wagner then owned making them Wagner pieces made from older Wagner patterns.

I don't think quotes or no quotes has any bearing on anything other than the pattern maker or "boss" decided that day or period that there should or shouldn't be quotes.  There are so many different marks on both Griswold and Wagner (especially Wagner) that it would be hard to determine the whys of it all.

In the blue book page 281 & 282. It has Sidney O in (script), 1897 skillets & handled griddle. I have the griddle.

That's a Sidney Hollow Ware piece and is earlier than the pans that read SIDNEY HOLLOW WARE CO. on them.  The script ones are pretty early-and pretty.
