WORLD'S BIGGEST SKILLET ?
« on: December 15, 2003, 08:58:26 PM »
I read an article in the local paper today about a skillet used in Rose Hill NC for the Rose Hill Poultry Jubilee that states, in part.... "The frying pan .... is described as weighing about two tons, with a diameter of 15 feet, and will accommodate about 365 chickens at a time. Heat comes from 8 large gas burners, like burners used in tobacco barns. The pan has a circumference of about 47 feet not counting its seven foot long handle. Rose Hill residents dubbed it the "Worlds Largest Frying Pan." Protecting the frying pan is a large gazebo-type structure". I went to a web site to try and get a picture, which I couldn't, but did learn they turn the chickens with, what else, pitch forks. Also no mention if it was a smooth bottom or not or if it came with a lid.

actually that link may be to a different skillet, at least the size is not the same as Harry's measurements.

It's a different one. I found a picture of the pavilion but about all you can make out is there is something with what looks like a handle housed in there. Also found one visitors comment about the thing smelling like rancid cooking oil and left over chicken parts. Hmmm, not sure I want to go there an order chicken.
