Largest Production CI Skillet?
« on: September 28, 2004, 10:34:22 AM »
How big is the largest production cast iron skillet?  One time in welding shop a restaurant brought in a skillet that was huge.  Some guy tried to lift it by the handle, (which BTW was normal pan length and size)it broke off of the pan taking part of the side with it.  We brazed the piece back on the pan and far as I know it's still in service.  I was wondering what size would this pan have been, and who made the largest skillets?

John,
I have no idea about the largest, but I have seen a 20" skillet like you described and it had a standard size handle.  Looked rather strange.   I believe I've seen one on Ebay like it.

Honestly I think the skillet I was talking about was around 30 to 36", and yes it really did look odd.

Geez!  I sure would like to see that one!  It would be neat to get a picture of it on the stove.  36"?  It would take a crane to lift that.

I know where that skillet was back ing 1981, so I will check with them to see if it is still there.  If they still have it, I know it will still be in use, and I will get a picture of it.
