Wagner Hammered Aluminum Piece
« on: January 06, 2005, 02:37:05 AM »
I know this might be the wrong place place to bring up aluminum but I have lately been collecting Wagner hammered aluminum pieces. I've found them relatively inexpensive, and I just like the way they look though they are hard to clean. I now have a small collection of them but I am seeking information on Wagners round roaster no#3248. I believe this piece to be original with trivet, but it has no wire handle and the cover has ears like a skillet cover. Does anyone out there have one of these? I have looked it up in the red book of Wagner & Griswold and on page 33 it list the cover as a skillet cover unmarked. Is it possible that Wagner marketed these this way or is this a mis-match?

I think the catalog number on a bottom and top should match.  If your cover has a number and it is more than one number off I would think it may not be the orignal cover.  I'm don't know much about Aluminum pieces so, hopefully, someone who does know will come up with more info for you.

Mark,  I don't have a 3248 with a lid,  but I do have many hammered aluminum pieces.  Here is a listing with a 2248 hammered aluminum #8 round roaster.   What is the difference with the 2248 and the 3248?  Is this just like yours???

Thanks Will, Yes this looks like the #3248 except it doesn't have the wire bale and the cover is unmarked. The trivet is also aluminum and only marked 2M. I also own a 248 aluminum round roaster (not hammered) with raised letters. And # 2248, #3266, #3266M, all hammered in the same pattern but what I think is odd is the cover is is listed as a pan cover . Did they make a aluminum hammered skillet? And why did they leave the wire handle off the roaster if it wasn't to make room for the ears of the cover. My pan shows no sign of wear of ever having a bail on it. I am also looking for a H.S. 1268 hammered aluminum piece which is the same as the #2248 but with the wire bail and unmarked cover.
