Even or Odd numbers?

What is more desirable, even numbered pieces or odd numbered pieces? I have three Griswolds, #5, #7, and #9. I also have a Wagner #3, and noname #3, #5, and #6. All these have nice smooth surfaces and good quality castings. (I have some new Lodges too, which of course are much rougher and aren't numbered the way the others are.)

Actually, it's mainly for curiosity sake. My main interest in cast iron is as cooking tools.

For rarity, desireability, and value, the No.2 and No.13 skillets are probably the ones to have.  Gee, both and odd and an even.  For cooking one has to go with what works best, size wise, for her (any guys go in the kitchen anymore?).  I like my 4's and 5's and 7's and 10's.   For a general set I would say a 4,5,7 or 8, and a 9 or 10 would cover most cooking.  Maybe one larger, too.  Griswold No.4's are a little bit pricy for some variations.  Hey, they're all good!  I like some of my least valuable pieces as much as any.  I think most newer pans are numbered or sized in inches while the old pans had the trade number corresponding somewhat to what size stove lid the pan fit.

Boy C.B. You got me laughin again. Thats rich stuff. That is an odd question about which is best odd or even. I never heard it before, and it would take Steve Stephens to answer it, and an admirable job he did at that. As far as a man going into the kitchen, I am not a gourmet cook, but I can cook and do cook. The best thing a woman can do for me in the kitchen is stay out of my way. I clean as I cook so I don't have a big mess at the end looking me in the face. I also do the dishes too, wipe down the stove, and clean the table, and put away leftovers. So, yeah, I'd say some guys, probably a lot of guys, go into the kitchen. I don't know about "needin" a number 4, and a 5, and a 6 etc. I'd say, for the most part, if you can't cook it in a number 8, you can't cook it in anything. Whats the big advantage to using a number four, say to fix one egg, than a number 8. You might say less heat, maybe a gazillionth of a second, less vegetable oil, maybe a teaspoon. So I'd say have a number 8, keep it seasoned and well used. The more you use it the more seasoned it will become and the better it will serve. Thems just my thoughts.

Around here I don't think too many people go in the kitchen other than to get to the garbage or pour a glass of wine.  And I was kidding C.B.

It figures out to be ODD Alan.  You asked ONE question which is and ODD number.  Multiply that ODD number by answers by our EVEN tempered staff and you still get an odd number since an odd times an even is always an odd.  You know, this is an ODD hobby and we are mostly ODD folks.  Just look at some or our photos here.  EVEN you would have to agree?  If you don't, that's odd which puts you right in the middle of our odd group.  Come to our odd convention this fall and have an even better time than if you don't.  To do so would require an even contribution of $30 to our treasury which would give you an odd (1) years worth of additional benefits.  Then the second and subsequent years you would only have to send in an odd payment of $25 for another year of membership.  It's too late and this post is going nowhere in particular.
