Electrolysis
« on: June 27, 2005, 02:32:09 PM »
We are trying our hand at Electrolysis. I had a couple of men help me set it up this morning. We started with a #8 Wagner waffle iron with the high base. The base is quite rusty and the iron itself has some pretty heavy crud on it. Thank you guys for all your help and I will try to stick to the subject of cooking utinsils from now on.

Don't you dare do that, as we all collect many different things and the items you've shown are quite interesting.

Julie, it just occured to me that you are the turtle and milk bottle lady. No, don't leave. I know I got a lot of fun out of those items and learned something too. When you have taught us everything you know and we have taught you everything we know, then you can leave. Meanwhile, sit down take your shoes off and sit a spell. Then get up and go and get us another one of them crazy things to look at. Also, I don't think anybody said it, but I think one of them turtles was brass.

Okay I will look for the next strange and unusual item. In the meantime, how do I season this waffle iron with the wooden handles? It should come out of the soup about noon. It is looking much improved. Unbelievable!! Maybe the low temp in the oven won't damage the wood.

The wood handles should be removed for electrolysis and also for the seasoning.  Season this w/i just like the skillets we have described above [Cleaning/Restoration Methods]

Yeah, what they said, Don't go away. If it's cast iron we want to see. You posted two things I have never seen. Very interesting.

That turtle is interesting as far as value.  It books for $500-700 and the one sold for under $200.  Now I wonder if there are different versions of this one.  Julie, what are the markings on the turtle under the lid, as that is where it is supposed to be marked, if I remember correctly.

HELP!! How do I remove the handles? Do they screw off? My next piece is a Wagner Ware Fryer Pan # 1428. What do you know about these?

Ok, those look like Alaskan handles, not wood.  These can do directly into the electrolysis bath.  They should unscrew, but I would likely leave them in place.

Now the big question, I've never seen this piece before.  What does the inside pattern look like?

I am sorry to be so confusing. The piece I am cleaning now is a waffle iron with a high base. It has wooden handles. I have it hanging in the soup to keep the handles out. I need to either remove them or I read someplace I could season on top of the stove.

The picture I put up before is the fryer pan and it is just plain inside. I will attach the pic of the inside.

Julie, the piece you put up is "not just a fryer pan". I've never seen one of these things and don't remember seeing it in the books. Has anybody else seen one of these? Well Julie Gadgets, here we go again. What else you got in that big bag?

is there a base for this?  Are both paddles marked, if so are they the same markings?  A unique piece, I believe.

My dad collected alot of things but he really liked cast iron. It has been an adventure going through his museum and finding something about every day. I just thought that fryer pan was cute and unusual. When he was going to auction sales, if cast iron was listed on the bill, he would usually come home with some. I haven't even sent any pictures of his toys yet.

I don't have a base. Both sides are marked the same.

Greg, thanks to this friend I have, I have a computer with a screen that comes in so good I can separate fly specks (you know what I mean) from black pepper. Having said this, yes they are both marked, I can see them very clearly on my computer. They have the big curvy Wagner.

Julie, I think we need to have a formal welcoming committee of WAGS to call upon you. I certainly would be available to be on that committee. Your place sounds like a gold mine to me. Now don't tell any of the other members about this, it'll just be our little secret. Shhhh!

That 1428 number fits right in between the "Krusty Korn cob corn dog maker" and the sandwich maker, and the 1428 is not in the blue book 4th edition. I think Julie has found a missing link. Julie, you're killin me, stop it.
