a little TLC

With a little TLC this will look pretty good. Also have the original shipping crate. Crate not marke Gris, but it does say NO. 516 HEATER on the top slat. Back of heater is marked No. 516. The rust is surface rust, copper is in good shape. Need a heated work shop, this will be another Spring project.

These are gas,there is a 3/4" dia. burner on that valve on the side. The burner runs the length of the copper and sets just above the copper with a slight downward angle. It's called a Reflector Heater, basically it's a radiant heater. Most of them I see the metal is shot, this one I can save.

Sure wish I had one of those sitting in my shop. (sigh) Where I'd put it to hook it up, I don't know. But I know it sure would look nice in there.  :)

Congratulations on a great find. That should be a fun one to clean up. Please be sure to post pix afterwards. I'd love to see how it turns out.

Picked it up at a antique show in Columbus, OH. This dealer had 3 or 4 of these most in bad shape. This one was the only one in the crate and tucked back under the table, I drug it out and decided I had to have it.
  When the warm weather returns I'll work on it and get some pics.

Ed, congratulations, that is a nice find. Leave it to Ed to make such a find. Clark, how come you didn't get him tripped and beat him to this. When you find just about anything like this old, and still in the crate it is a rare find. When you get it all cleaned up Ed, be sure and put up a picture of it for us to enjoy.

Oh yes?  Is that supposed to be good?  It's all the people who have moved into Temecula in the past 15 years that have caused your own global warming.  Used to be a neat place to antique 20 years ago when there wasn't much there.

USED TO BE are the key words here.   We have been here since 1984...when there were only a few stop signs and no traffic signals.  It is very sad to see what our governing fathers thought best for this area.  It is getting to be Orange County all over again.  There are still some good places to look for antiques here, but I think the popularity of the place may have affected the prices.  Every once in a while I'll find something nice to buy.  I still keep checking for one of them Axford pancake griddles....no luck yet.  Oh well, enough of this hand wringing....just nuttin's da same nomoe.

  WOW, Great find on that heater , Ed. Must be at least 80 years old and never used.   I've seen those type around, but always in bad shape. Let us know how well it works.     JR

Clark, come get it and clean up the nickle while you watch the snow blow. LOL ... It is in good shape, the condition of the copper amazes me, it still shines like a new penny.
   Perry, I got there before Clark I know how he operates, snooze ya lose!
 Heck Scott that's just a little white stuff. Warm that day see the sun shine on the ground.
    Yeah JR I figure around 80 years.. Wonder how long they were in production?

Perry, Ee told me about this Antique Show in Columbus and be there Sat.The only way to beat Ed is to get there Friday might, and I was.Well no show but I know where it was at now. Drove all night long, got there at 10:00 AM. Ed was there at 9:00, he got all the good stuff. Perry he knew what he was dooing, that show was in Columbus Georgia.

Yes, I think it's the original crate. The condition of the wood and the construction of the crate are old, and the stove fits inside like a glove. Sure wish the crate had Gris MFG. Co.  branded on it, the marking on the crate is branded into the wood, it's not a stencil and paint.  Heres a pic it's gonna be large, wanted it to be clearer, I'll remove it later.
