Wagner Hammered Aluminum
« on: January 29, 2006, 12:09:26 AM »
The other day I picked up a set of Wagner hammered aluminum lipped kettles. There were three of them no#3681, 3682, 3683. The first one I don't find listed. Is this a new number? I see 3682 thru 3686 listed on page 124 of the red book. Just wondering.

If you have 3681 on a WW kettle, I'd say it was over looked and probably will be added to the missing c/n list. I thought maybe it was added to the 4th blue book, but none of them are listed in it. You're right about the red book though. Have any pix of these kettles? I like hammered items, especially in sets.

Ed, the #3681 is the only one that is complete. The other two have the lid knobs missing. I have to get someone to turn some for me. I will post pictures for you a little later today. Also in hammered aluminum I have in dutch ovens#3248,#22248,(2)#3266 oval roasters, and a pan#3508 with cover. Also have HS1267 and HS1268. Aluminum plain dutch oven #(248) with raised markings on cover and a fully marked trivet,(2) #2 Wagner aluminum loaf pans and a 2qt coffee pot, page 68 red book, Pat. 1902

I don't have but one or two hammered alum pieces. Have several pieces of hammered iron from various foundries. I like the Lodge pattern, it is a very fine peening smaller than Griswold. I don't know if they had complete sets of hammered skillets, I'm still looking. I have the deep skillet and lid,#8 skillet, #3 skillet and what I appears to be a double skillet top. It does not fit the deep skillet or the #8, but it looks Lodge.
Nice pic Mark. Did you clean those pieces up? Or get lucky and find them like that. I'd have more Alum pieces if I could find them in that condition.

Yes I do. I find that its slow but it doesn't hurt the aluminum. But it is messy and I can do it only after the weather get warmer because it powders out and you get lots of dust. Not a inside job.

Greg, I can tell you that even using a cabinet, the dust gets all over.  It's worth it though.

Tom

I was going to try a little coarser shell but I bought it too coarse, won't go through my equipment.  I just set it aside, but was thinking that I could probably resize it using the grain mill attachment for my KitchenAid mixer.

No, I haven't seen one like that before but the more I look the more items I find that I have never seen. I would like to get the rest of this set. The red book in the numbers section lists also a #3684, 3685, and a 3686. Is the one you have one of these? And yes one of the loaf pans I had planed on selling but I thought I would list it on Ebay. The red book list it at  75 to a 100 dollars but I believe that most of the prices are kind of high. But I have never seen one and I don't know how rare they are. It is listed on page 84 in the red book and also comes in sizes 1 an 3. Yea I agree we should meet up one of these days. I'm a cast iron junkie. Heres a pic

Mark,  let me look to see if I have any of the #3684, #3685 or #3686.

I have seen the loaf pans on Ebay.   They hit $100 with no problem.   If I remember right,  $100-150 for them.

Let me see what I have and see if some $$$ and some items can change hands for a loaf pan. ;)  If you are interested.

Hey Will, don't be in any hurry on my account. The loaf pan is not going anywhere in the near future so take your time and let me know when your ready. There is one item in a earlier post you showed everyone. It was a picture of a CHF skillet, porcelain, wooden handle skillet. Is that yours? I really don't know of anything I really need because I have a pretty big collection and I collect them all. I'd like to see some of your collection, I'll bet it is impressive. How's your Lodge collection going? I picked up a Lodge #7 Dutch oven the other day with raised 7 and Lodge marking on the cover but on the bottom it is marked with only a 7 and it is 90 degrees off marked, like a Vollrath, smooth bottom. Might be a mis-match. I'd be interested in a deal of some sorts, let me know and will work out something.

Mark,

The CHF porcelain with a wood handle,  I don't know if it was mine,  but I do have one. ::)

The Lodge collection is growing.  Just bought a #4 marked Lodge with no HR breaks,  a #12 marked Lodge with no HR breaks and a #7 non marked one HR break with a raised number.  The #4 and #12 don't have numbers on the handle at all.  There is becoming SO many variations of the Lodge skillet,  you have no idea.  WOW.  I opened up a can of worms when I got into Lodge.

A #7 Lodge oven.....Send me a picture of the bottom.   I have an old #8 Lodge and will look at that.

Time for bed.    :D
