Gene Goff Corn Dog Iron, SURPRISE I'TS NICKELED!
« on: August 27, 2006, 04:21:55 PM »
I noticed the Waffledog Iron on Ebay just before I read Steve Stephens posting on it. Steve also linked us to this Wagner made piece on Ebay (thanks Steve!) that I thought was so cool I bid and won the auction. After I cleaned this piece to my surprise it's nickeled, I wasn't expecting that. Here are some pics. I still have some cleaning to do on the base.

Were many of these nickeled?

Before pics. http://tinyurl.com/ocu89

FYI, that's not rust in the mold, it's just a light seasoning on the nickel that I did. I love the Dachshund!

That came out nice Greg.  I had a black iron one but there aren't many around to see how many were nickeled.  These look to have been made by Wagner but not entirely sure about that.

Where these pieces made for the public or did Gene Goff Own corn dog stands or something like that?

I haven't a clue but suspect that they were available to the public.  That's a home style iron and not a commercial sized one though it could be used anywhere.

Charles Cowdrick is who you send them to.  You can send him a pm with the link to the thread here, or there is also an email address, but I can't remember it.

Thank you!

Thats a nice peice I have seen them before I guess since they were either made or sold in dallas thats why I have seen them hear in texas my question is how are they used do you make cornbread sticks with them or corn dogs In which case do you just lay the weiner in and pour the batter over it and close it which would produce a strange looking corn dog with a weiner hanging out of one side of it and where would the stick go you need to try it out and let me know.

A third option would be, just cook the weiner to make a hot dog, with no batter.

I found this article about KC Drive Inn in Hawaii that explains the process, its at the bottom of the page.
