Griswold No. 7 waffle Iron 1922 pat.
« on: February 01, 2009, 09:11:59 AM »
Hello all.  I just picked up one of these 3 piece waffle irons and wondered who might have spare parts for them.  One of the plates has a piece chipped off the edge.  In searching yesterday I found little info about the no. 7.  It seems it's not at all common compared with the no. 8.  Thanks, Herman

I'm with you Herman. I can only find the #8's myself. Nice find by the way. Can you post any pictures of the waffle iron? That way we know exactly what you're looking for. Just shot pics from all sides. Thanks

Here's a little more info and pictures if they work.  The tall base is marked 311 with Griswold Erie.  The plates are 6 5/8" across.  Pictures next hopefully.  Well, so much for pictures-none will attach.  I keep getting the reselect for security reasons.  It has the wire handles like I see pictured on the no. 8's.  Herman

Herman, Your pictures are probably too big.  The best size for forum posting is 1000 pixels or less (like 400 x 600).  If you don't have photo editing software on your computer, you can resize them for free on this website  http://www.shrinkpictures.com/  and post them one pic per post

If you want to put multiple pics in one post, follow Michelle's instruction from this link:

Sandy I worked on one picture and we'll see if that works.  I'm not adept at the more skilled computer stuff.

Nice alaskan handled #8 Herman. Well....except for the chunk missing. You can search for a paddle to replace that. I have one like it with wood handles, and a low base. That's one thing I like to collect is the waffle irons. Check on here to see if anyone has a good paddle to replace that one and you'll have a nice collectors piece.

Thanks, Chuck.  But I really thought it said no. 7 on each "paddle".  I sort of put the post up to see if I could find another "paddle".  I envision stripping the paint off this "wi" and cleaning it up to use.  We do some camping, and this might be fun to take along.  I really don't know much about cast iron cookware, but I do have a gem of a Griswold oval dutch oven from an ancestor on my wife's side.  Herman

Herman, the base you have is incorrect for your waffle irons.  See the notches at the 4 and 8 o'clock positions on the base, your irons should have stop/leveling pins to match these notches and as you can see your irons are the style that do not have the pins.   You are correct that the Griswold #7 waffle irons are less common than the #8's but usually don't sell for much more. Thanks, Mike.  You know your excrement apparently.  Now, what should my base look like, and what is the 311 base for?  This stuff (politely) is kind of involved.  My irons will work on this base, I think.  But where do I find a replacement for the missing paddle/iron?  Puzzled, Herman  p.s.  It sounds like you may just accumulate cast iron, and if so, be thankful.  I accumulate so much old stuff, it's unbelievable what I drag home sometimes.

Herman, the 311 base is for a #7 Griswold waffle iron, just a different style than the irons you have, the irons would have a little round tab or pin fit in the notch of the base and when the irons are flipped the tab would fit in the notch on the other side.  A single paddle to replace your broken one will probably difficult to find.   I've been told there are over 200 variations of Griswold waffle irons, I don't know if this number is correct but I do know there sure are a lot of them.  Mike

Mike, it don't get easier does it.  I just looked at an Ebay listing of a heart and star iron on a 4&8 notched base.  The seller tells me it's a 915 base made for his iron, but his iron has no tabs.  Maybe I'll clean the thing up and try to use it as it is.  Thanks to everyone and I'm really glad I don't want to collect these things.  I can't get rid of all the collectibles I already have and I'm getting old.  Herman

Ya know, If I actually paid attention to what I was reading I would have remembered that your iron was a 7. Sorry bout that. Mike is right as always, so follow his advice because I can't tell a 7 from an 8.  ;D
