I want to hear about "Your lucky find". What did you buy this weekend, or last week, that you might consider to be a good deal or a lucky find. Lets hear the whole story, what you found, where you found it, what did you give for it and what you might feel is different or special about it. I'll get the ball rolling because I think I got a good deal on a few skillets that I dont even need! First of all I gotta tell you I really enjoy haggeling and spontaniously coming up with resons for sellers to sell me things for less than they want to. A garage sale junkie you might say. My promise to myself is never give anybody what they want for anything, especialy in a purchasing combat type scenario like a used car lot, dealership or a flea market. I even try to get senior citizen discounts at sporting goods stores, I'm 40 fat and gray, and half the time I get the discount.
First item is a Griwold #8 smooth botom skillet. Just a plain, dirty, oily old #8 that needs striped and reseasoned but passes all the tests. I ask How much. He says $12 I offer $5. He says I paid $8 & gotta have 9 to make a buck. I said another guy 50' away has the same one for 6 and I put his back and start walking. The guy says OK $6. Deal
Second is 3 #3s. A griswold small logo erie. A made in USA (probably Wagner), and a crusty old mystery pan, with a heat ring, that will make a good identification topic another time. The guy says the Gris. is $9 and the other two are $5 each. I said well I cant tell if the crusty one is even american iron so I'll pass on it because its only worth a buck to take a chance on a pan that could be chineese. The USA pan is worth $2 because it could be some kind of pot metal with no brand name and all. And the Griswold to me is only worth $4 because I just bought this #8 for $6. Then he says $9 for the two. I wait a minute, act like Im thinking, and offer $9 for all three. He says 10 I say 8. Got all three for $9. Both deals were at the same flea market.
Thats my lucky find for the week.
Lets hear about "your lucky find".
