It may very well have been made by an individual or organization for the Centennial as marked but I don't think it was made by the Griswold factory.

By the looks of the clock movement, methods of construction/ materials used, I would guess that this is original folk art. (Obviously not made this way by Griswold)

Original Griswold skillet.   Not a repro.   Clock added for the occasion,  LONG ago.   Like another member posted,  nice folk art.

Hey thanks Greg for posting my skillet/clock/folk art/weird item/etc. lol and thank you other posters for informing me that I do not have a piece that I can retire on...lol! I got this clock at a local auction near the end when box lots were going for 5 bucks a pop, but I had to dig deep for this ole skillet....woman ran me up to 7.50!! I darn near had to see a doctor after lugging this clock to the car...that sucker weighs every bit of 35-40 pounds. I told Greg in an email that I was hoping beyond hope that I had a rare item, but the hunt will always continue. I contacted the city of Tarentum, Pa. historical society about this clock, but the woman over the society had no idea about the clock or who could have made it. I thought that this clock would have hung in an important place in Tarentum, but yet it winds up in an auction here in southwest Va. and at the end of an auction...what a journey for such an interesting piece of Americana. Maybe someone on here knows somebody that knows someone else that lived in Tarentum or had family that lived there or nearby that knows the straight of this clock. I would love to know and hey...thanks again everybody! Jeff

It is definitely a real Griswold skillet that was made into a clock.  If this had been an original clock made by Griswold the letter for the clock would have been such that you could have read GRISWOLD and the other writings upright when the clock was put on the wall, and they would have not covered up any of the important writing that would have acknowledged the foundry.

Indeed, one of a kind, I would say, but after market as others would say.  I would think that the Town of Tarentum would want something like that for their historical society.  As for $7.50... a steal!!

I knew the town right off. Been thru there many times. Perry may have also. Nice craftsmanship. I would say one of a kind folk art. and some of that stuff brings a nice price to the right person..... :)

$7.50 is a steal.  I think any one of us here would have given that at the auction.

Hey gals and guys I went through some of the threads on here last night/morning and there are some real characters here. I was raised up to be scared of the dark side, but this forum gives it a whole new meaning. I think one of the reasons I never thought about buying cast iron at local auctions or yard sales is the fear of my woman using one of those skillets in a way it was not to be used ;)Some of the things I have brought back to the house...I ended up making my dog scoot over in his house to have a place to sleep. This may not be the right thread for this question, but what ballpark figure do ya'll think this clock could be worth? If the people from Tarentum does not want it....I am not married to it! :)I told my dad at the auction if there was one thing I wanted to go home with...it was that clock...it just looked very odd and something you just do not see everyday.

Jeff,  it there is a historical society in that town,  they probably would be interested,  but you probably would get no money for it.   I would have to guess,  and this is just a guess,  that it would sell for about $100.00 on Ebay.   That is just a guess.   Or,  you could donate it to the historical society in that town,  and take a tax write off.

Yea Will the woman at the historical society did not know about the clock, but said when she had the time she would research it more and let me know what she found. Strange thing to me is that she acted ho-hum about the clock and not really all that excited about it. I love history....one of the reasons I love antiqueing and if I were ever over     my town's historical society, I would love to research a piece         likethis from my hometown. I always like to see objects go back to where they belong. It is really sad to see photographs at auctions go to the highest bidder, instead of staying in the family. :'( The donating idea is a good one, but if I get no response from them...I don't know :o

Just got an email from the curator of the museum in Tarentum and she informed me that there is no record of such a clock in the Centennial database in their records. She said that they would speak with a local historian about the clock and then get back with me. I will keep ya'll up to date whenever I hear more...see ya'll panheads later :D
