Griswold "Erie" 4lb Cold Safety Sad Iron- Cleaned
« on: February 01, 2010, 11:51:21 PM »
Hey Guys and Gals,
Just wanted to post a few pics of what I consider to be a nice Griswold 4lb Griswold "ERIE" Cold Safety Handle, Asbestos insulated Sad Iron. Picked it up for $7.50 at an antique store and you could barely read Griswold on the top and the Iron base was covered in brown junk. I was absolutely amazed when I got to cleaning and restoring it, and how great the hardware, etc. was. It came out great. I originally planned on using it as a unique door-stop, but now I want to display it somewhere other than the floor.  :P  Enjoy!

Wow Jacob, she sure did clean up nice. I don't see too many of them. NICE  ;)  Are you looking for a handle for it? I think a handle will fit a few of them, use it till it gets cold, set it on the stove, release the trigger and then set the handle down in another and you are good to go again.

That's a beauty, nice work. I have one from a foundry that used to be in Boyertown, PA area (Keystone) that I keep in my home office along with a 1920's oval base phone. I think you may find handles at flea markets or in a pile now and then in antique malls, etc. But not to often. You might just have to buy another complete iron and use the handle. These usually go cheap anyway.
