Do any of the Later Lids fit ERIE Skillets?
« on: March 05, 2010, 01:42:57 PM »
I love using my "ERIE" skillets but miss not having a cover. Mine are all either 2nd or 3rd series. Are there any covers (Griswold or not) that are known to fit? In fact, are the old ERIE's even uniform in size? I know that it's true of some 1st series skillets.

I just grabbed three different Erie 8's and tried four different Griswold lids on them and they all fit very well??

I "think" that all the Griswold skillets are "fairly" uniform in size but I could not swear to that??

What do the others have to say about this??

I say this is about the fifth time that I can remember talking about this, and I am glad it comes back up, cause its good information.  :) ;)

But yes, the lids fit the old "ERIE" skillets. But let me say this, I don't know about the deep "ERIE" skillets, as to what fits them or don't fit them. Can somebody else jump in and help us with that?  :)

I'd like to know this too (lids on the deep skillets). Jeff/Chuck - don't you guys have some to test?

I've check the #8, and #9 lids, on there respective deep skillets, and I will have to say, no. They do not fit. The taper on the deep skillet makes it too wide at the top for the lid. I even tried a #9 lid, on the #8, with no luck. ON the earliest series 1 thru 4 ERIE skillets, the lids fit but they are loose. They do fit the later 5 thru 6 series skillets much better. At least these are my findings. The catalog that Perry was so kind to have reprinted, does not show lids for either the regular, or the deep skillets.

Griswold didn't make ERIE skillet lids did they?  I love the later Griswold lids the have the lettering and LARGE Griswold logo, my favorite by far, and about the only ones I buy.  I have never seen a lid marked ERIE so I had assumed they hadn't been manufactured that early in the Griswold history.

Thanks!

If you want covers to use with your deep ERIE skillets you can use Wagner unmarked cover from their deep skillets. The WW 1081 & 1082 skillet roaster covers work on 8 & 9 deep ERIE also..
Me I'd use other deep skillets before my deep ERIE'S, they are to hard to find and theres plenty of other deep skillets..

When you say deep ERIEs, how deep are you talking, 21/4, 21/2 or 3 inches?  I'm not sure just how deep their deeper skillets are.
